This is a small tree I found growing on our property. It's single trunk, about 7/8 feet tall & is deciduous. It's growing on the west side under & next to huge old oaks but must get slanting afternoon sun. The first 2 photos were taken 12/21/11 when it was bare of leaves. The last 2 photos were taken 3/14/12 & show it leafing out. A very thorny plant.

I think the reddish stems on the leaflets give this one away as a clava-herculis.

I checked them both out & Dave calls it again. The clavia-herculis does have the reddish stems. That's 2 acorns I owe you Dave. Thumbs up

Now we have photos of it for the db. I wonder who put in the data for it but had no photos? No matter --- we have them now. I can't wait until it blooms! YAY! More food for wildlife!!!!!!!!!! And flutter bys! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
