I love to make hypertufa pots. I have been to Lowe's to buy more needed products. My next project is a long trough for my mini hosta.

I've wanted to do it forever, but haven't tried it yet. Do you think a small cement mixer would work to mix it up? What sort of molds do you use, or do you hand shape them? I'd love to have some tips on how you work with it.

Karen, I only use a large wheelbarrow to mix it in. You can use a hoe to stir with. The best thing that I have found is YouTube. I took a pricey class to begin with.

You can use many things for molds. Bowls, plastic containers, even boxes or Styrofoam coolers.
You can use plastic wrap and Pam to spray the interior.

I was hoping others would post tips. I am wanting to make a trough for my mini hosta. I think I will use an old cooler but make it shorter. Just not come all the way up the sides.

So many fun things to make! I have done leaf casting also. I bought more Concrete Patch for those my EEs are big now and I want to make a hosta leaf also. They look nice as a water fountain.

I used to make tons of hypertufa containers and Quikwall garden art. Haven't had time to in many years, but hope to get back into it someday.

Here are a couple of articles on this site. First one I wrote on making hypertufa: https://garden.org/ideas/view/...

This one was written by Boopaints about my Quikwall garden art: https://garden.org/ideas/view/...

I'd be happy to answers any questions! Here are a few containers I've made too.

Thanks for posting Hurray! It looks like you have done a lot of it!

Do you make a drainage hole in all of your pots? Even the shallow ones with succulents?
