I just realized that my bloom season began on March 27th last year after an unusually cold winter. I have scapes coming up, but I really don't think there will be any blooms in 11 days. That is just strange because we have had nowhere near the weather like last year. Shoot we were still having lows in the 30s and 40s this time last year. Maybe the cold hot freeze hot cold hot freeze cycle got them all confused and they decided to wait it out to see what the weather was going to do. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Shrug!

Looks as if the plants and humans are confused with this bloom season. I think we are about two
weeks early here. I don't know whether to prepare daylilies for their growth or cover them for
freezing. I keep checking the weather, and hope the weather peoples are not guessing. Rolling my eyes.

David just told me that yesterday he found 4 scapes on Siloam David Kirchhoff! It's just mid March and we usually find our first scape late April. This is crazy! Now, the scape search has begun!

We had found a scape on a seedling a few weeks ago, but it may not make it because of the cold mornings we had a few weeks ago.

We had a daylily club plant sale yesterday. A couple of our members were saying that we will see different daylilies at our daylily show the third Saturday in June. We will see later bloomers this year.

I was checking the seedling beds right behind the house a little while ago and found SEVERAL scapes. Now, this is exciting because these will probably be first time bloomers. Some in these raised beds bloomed last summer as 9 month seedlings, but these have had an extra year to grow and even increase.

Yeah, that's not likely to happen unless you are in the hospital on life support!!! But, that may be a little drastic, you might not be as addicted to seeing the first blooms as I am???

We have about 3.34 acres with at least 3 that are landscaped. Sometimes I do not get back to the same area for a week or more. I can easily miss a bloom if I am working in another area and have umpdozen garden jobs to do each day. These seedling beds with the scapes are directly behind the house, so hopefully one of us will remember to look out the window to see if we have a bloom. Once the first one blooms, one of us will remember to check each day. This afternoon I noticed as I was walking around or through daylily beds, I was looking around for scapes on the larger plants.

That is so exciting!

My late bloomers bloomed early last year - I was hoping for a more normal year weather wise this year, so that I would continue to have blooms in late August and September - unless I get reblooms, I certainly don't see that happening this year either! Everything right now seems to be a month ahead of schedule, including the trees. ~Jan

Here's Double Down, my consistently extra early today. First bloom was Mar 8, but a hard rain wiped it out.
