I received my Lily Auction order from Michele yesterday (she mailed it via Priority Mail on Monday and it wasn't delivered until Friday -- bad bad USPS!), but the plants still look wonderful! It rained something like a half-inch here this morning, which is practically unheard of in Bakersfield, and the sun finally came out so I ventured out there to take this picture -- and discovered it's really windy, so back in I came for a Claritin and some lunch. We're about to have another bout of rain again, so I can tell I'm not going to get these planted until later this afternoon.

Thumb of 2012-03-17/Betja/465826

Here are the plants I received from Michele:

TET. LAVENDER BLUE BABY
FLORIDA'S GARDEN LIGHT
PORTS OF PARADISE
BETWEEN WOMEN
THE BLUE PARROT

Bonus Plants:
GUS TOWNSEND
LILLIAN'S LITTLE JOE

The neat thing about our Michele is that she picks up on what we're interested in, and then she selects a daylily for a gift plant that is just perfect. She knows I'm interested in toothy daylilies, and more recently in trying for a toothy small/mini daylily. GUS TOWNSEND is toothy, and LILLIAN'S LITTLE JOE is Fred's little one that has a bit of a toothy edge. PERFECT!

Thank you soooooo much, Michele! The plants are absolutely beautiful, and I'm sorry that because they're soaking in the tub the incredible root systems don't show in the picture. But they're fantastic!

I'm glad they look good, I was afraid they were going to be all yellow and shriveled up.

Wow!! Betty, you got some beauties. I looked them up. I reallly really love "The Blue Parrot". Between Women is another one that I'd like. Beautiful, all of them.

Yes, Michele and I were talking last fall about one of Lyle's seedlings that I really loved. She told me then that she'd see about sending me one as a bonus. I would have forgotten, in fact I did until I looked it up and wow, she really does go the extra mile to make us all smile!!! She's just plum speacial like that. The bonus you got are really great. They fit right in with your wants.

Michele, I've gotten a few boxes in the past that looked really bad upon arrival. I would be so disappointed in them being very dry and roots just about all cut off. I even got some one year from a wonderful person but they had cut all, ALL the green off down to the crowns. After about 3 weeks in pots, they all looked good as new. I swear, these are some tuff plants!!!

Oh yes, our postal service is going to get worse instead of better. They closed our local distribution center and moved it 100 miles into Memphis, Tn center. So, if I mail a letter from here, Guntown to Tupelo 15 miles, the letter will go from guntown to Memphis and then back to Tupelo. I'm sure we just went from 1 day to 4 at the best. We have many many businesses in our area that tried to fight it, but it didn't do any good. So, I'd bet alot of people are going to be unhappy! Me included!!

We have the best mail lady around, though. She always pulls up in my driveway and honks when she has a package for me. If we're not up or not around she puts the package on our front porch so it won't be in the sun all day. I really appreicate her. I try to remember to put candy in the box for her on a regular basis.

Well I've strayed off topic as usual. I hope everyone is having a great day, Mona

Looks like some beautiful p,ants, Betty. How many did you order for the spring? It must have been a lot! Don't work too hard getting them all planted.

Thanks -- Right now I'm potting up just about everything because I want to try some hybridizing, so what I need now is more table space! And unfortunately I'm still doing the iris thing too, so it's getting mighty crowded around here! I just never seem to learn. From this order I'm going to plant FLORIDA'S GARDEN LIGHT and BETWEEN WOMEN in the ground, and the rest will go in pots.

Unfortunately with me, at least so far, it's "If" they bloom! Hopefully this year will be different...
