Does bronze fennel reseed a lot? I have a terrible problem with volunteers of so many plants. No matter how hard I try to deadhead, any seed that drops to the ground sprouts in my yard. I can handle a volunteer or two, but I'm trying not to plant anything that's notorious for reseeding heavily.

I've never had a big problem--it seems some years, it hardly comes back at all (just a few years ago, neither my next door neighbor or I had a single plant reseed between the two of us). Probably depends upon location--mine does not get full sun, so perhaps is not quite as aggressive there.

Thanks, Linda. Maybe I'll just sow a few seeds in a milk jug and hope for the best. I'd like to try them both for the look and for the beneficial insects that they're supposed to bring.

YES! Bronze fennel reseeds itself ALL OVER MY YARD! I pull the baby plants and put them in my salad. It is host to the catterpillar of the swallowtail butterfly.

Sweet! I stopped at a little local nursery earlier this summer, and she was showing us what all was available... there were a bunch of potted milkweeds & dill that had been pretty well nibbled down to the nubs by caterpillars. She made a loyal customer of me by saying, ".. but that's fine. they turn into butterflies, so they can eat what they want."

I chickened out and didn't plant them this year. I still have the seeds, maybe I'll try a few next year.

My Bronze Fennel isn't doing well in this heat and drought. And it has never made seeds.

My bronze fennel rarely, if ever, makes seeds. I end up replanting most years. But, it is so pretty, I just can't resist growing it.

Thanks, Charleen! But until the drought ends, I don't even want to THINK about planting seeds.

People here are so desparate that they talk about wanting a hurricane to hit the coast...now, that's bad, but you just can't help it! People are doing rain dances or...of course, praying a lot!

It must be awful, Linda. Tx is always on the news and weather now, for both the heat and drought.
