Is there any particular variety (probably a cherry) you would reccomend for this combination of ciurcumstances? I would look for those seeds this year and try them next year:

1. container, like 5 gallon bucket
2. early because my warm season is fairly short even thoguh frost-free is long
3. adapted to cool weather, because my summer is barely warm and certainly not "hot".
4. perhaps setting seedlings out under plastic for up to 2-3 months (March through May)

I think you might like Early Wonder in your conditions. I've grown it here for several years now and it has decent flavor and productivity. Rare to have such good flavor for an early.

I'd also get a second bucket and go with Sungold. Although it can grow somewhat gangly (meaning all over the place!) you can keep it trimmed and it will definitely produce like gangbusters.

I would nix Golden Nugget Yellow (no flavor and no productivity for me), Yellow Pear (very bland every single year I've grown it), and although Oregon Spring is parthenocarpic and early I was never impressed with it.

I'd really encourage you to try New Big Dwarf one day, too. Very "well mannered" in its growth habit, produces very nice/large slicers, and due to its wonderful amount of foliage really comes on strong with flavor. I'll send seeds to you if you have time to start some still.

Thanks, Shoe! This year I'm so far behind everything that tomatoes are kind of low on my list.

But I'll look for New Big Dwarf for next year. I'd offer to trade, but I am months behind on fulfilling the "New Bee" offers over in DG. Will New Big Dwarf do OK in a bucket?

And I'll move Early Wonder up above Oregon Spring on my to-try list. And demote those yellows to the bottom. Something about descriptions of 'Ildi' make me want to try it.

Sungold will grow in a bucket!!!??? Bingo!! "Keep it trimmed..."

Heather from Calgary is an angel. She runs an annual tomato / pepper swap in the Fall. I buy some big packets of commercial tomato seed and send her 40 packets, and she sends back 40 varieties! And she can really pick suitable varieties. I have decades more varieties than I have space to try them.
