29° now. I'm glad I put the tomatoes in the garage.

I'm surprised at just how tough Impatiens balsamina is proving to be. Most of my (Impatiens) seedlings are up-potted and doing the indoors/outdoors routine, but I left one outdoors under cover and it's still perky, even after a light, water freezing event occurred inside the springhouse last night.

I sowed some double camellia inside.. looks like they are burning under the lights.. a touch.. guess they don't like it warm

I started my impatiens under lights, too. They're ready to escape. All we need is some nice, sustained warmth. I hope that's here now to stay. It's 35° now, and a warm forecast going forward.

I had started to harden off my indoor coleus and the few seedlings that I started under lights. Now they haven't been outside due to cool weather and wind for the past week or so. I'll have to start over on that hardening off process. I can't wait to get everything in the ground and final bigger pots, too much work inside.

That might be my favorite thing about wintersown stuff- no need to harden off!

yes it's so much easier .. normally I am a slacker with that.. will cheat and just put them in a shaded sheltered area and move them out in the sun a few days after that.. little by little.. rather than bring them in and out .. in and out

the greenhouse is helping me cheat with the for sale plants this year

It just gets so windy here, and sometimes so fast, that I'm reluctant to leave them out when I'm not home to babysit them. I'm afraid these little pots and cells would blow away. Then, I don't have anyplace that doesn't get full hot sun at some time of day.

You have that nice forest around you for sun and wind protection, Allison.

After a very wet, rainy year, our April has been dry. There's a chance of rain today and I'm hoping it happens. My yard is really getting dry. I wish I'd had time to plant out a few things yesterday, but that didn't happen. I have wintersown rudbeckia, gaillardia , and 2 jugs of alyssum ready to go into the ground. If I don't start planting out today, probably will tomorrow. I'm just so itchy to start getting rid of jugs, cups, and little pots, inside and out!

It rained all day yesterday. We got 1.2" of rain. Supposed to be 82° today. The yard, and my clay soil, might be a little too wet to dig in today. But there's a chance of more rain tomorrow, so I'd like to get something planted.

I planted out my first 2 jugs today- gaillardia and rud hirtas. I had a heck of a time getting them out of the jugs because the soil was so wet it fell apart. But hopefully some (or most) will make it.

My jugs are so wet, now I'll probably get fungus gnats next.

Hi everyone!!!! Time to report...
I loved the winter sowing thing even if I chose a hard year to start... will definitely do it in 2013! totally worth it... will do it diffeently, will use a raised bed and actually prepare for it in the fall but I have plans!!!!

Best results:
Foxgloves
Wild Parsley
Shasta daisies
Canterbury bells
Primroses (Pink)
Lupines
Hollyhocks ( not very many) but I think I uncovered it too early!
Chamomile
Zinnias!!!! so cool!

Tomatoes are still not sprouting but I did it 10 days ago so I am not sure. We had above 87 for several hours yesterday and today so I let the cover out for a few hours and watered. They are in styroform cups like Karen's pics... I am still hopeful!

I am having a lot of fun with seeds this year! More planting tomorrow!
