Bummer.

I sowed 9 cups of tomatoes, all seeds a few years old. Several didn't sprout so I pricked out one from a cup with multiple sprouts and transplanted. Now only one is without a sprout. . And all sprouts are tiny, a couple just with seed leaves.
Only one is a beefsteak, my husband's favorite, so I might have to buy him another. I have 2 Matina, and the rest Snow White. Mr. Particular doesn't care for either Matina or Snow White.

After an exceptionally warm March followed by a cold April, warmth is supposed to return (finally!) in a couple of days. I still have quite a few jugs with little to no germination. Now we're coming down to the wire: If they don't sprout soon, I'll dump them strategically and forget about them. I've known wintersowers who hold onto them for years, and they finally sprout, but I don't have the patience for that.

And if my indoor stuff can hold off another couple of weeks, I'll be able to plant them out soon too.

I made a few summer planters a few days ago. It's been so cold, they've spent days outside and nights in the garage. Finally, they can move out permanently on Monday.

Karen -- i dont have the patience either.
I get home around the 5th of June... anything that has not germinated will be dumped in the garden.
I generally have pretty decent germination, i'm blaming the goofy weather for this year's "hit or miss".

And I'm way, way, WAY south of Wa. Kentucky is a bridge away from my house. The state line is about a mile or two away.

Remind me to go look at a map someday. Hilarious! My worthless child lives in Ohio and he likes to cruise down to KY. We're just a few miles south of Canada here, about 40 miles, I think.

Yes, these spring storms are something. But the heat and rain in the last few days have really made the wintersown babies put on some growth at last. Our March was warm, and lots of stuff sprouted. But they didn't seem to put on much growth during the cold April. Now that the warmth is back, the growth has resumed. My tomatoes are still tiny, but they've definitely grown taller in the past few days.

It seems the roots do continue to grow in cold weather, but it takes some heat for above-ground growth to be apparent.

Unfortunately, the weather has also made the next round of weeds sprout in the flower beds.
