This past wet year looks to have caused some causalities among my plants. Most disappointing, echinacea Hot Papaya (this would be it's 3rd year) and Hot Summer , planted last year, isn't looking too good either. Maybe they'll suddenly wake up but all my regular old coneflowers are putting up new growth, I think these should be, too.

No new growth on my 3 purple liastris, either, though the white is putting out new growth. One agastache only has one small shoot. My 5 butterfly weeds haven't shown up either, but they're always very late, about the last thing to wake up. I'm not worried about them yet, but I'll be very disappointed if I lose them.

This has been our warmest winter ever, but 2011 was our wettest year ever. We had almost twice our normal rainfall. All that wet insn't kind to plants in clay soil. I was thinking that if everything I've wintersown sprouts, I won't have space to plant it. I guess I was wrong there!

Good topic, Karen. I'll be back to list any casualties. So far, so good.

Too early to tell here , but most of the Heuchera do not look very good. They had no snow cover to protect them over the winter. I am also concerned about the Echinacea after all the rain last year.

Now that so many things are already up and going, it looks like I may have lost 'Tomato Soup' coneflower (again - done with that one ) and Maypop (Passiflora incarnata). The latter grows wild here but is difficult to get started. We'll see if it might yet emerge.

Shrug!

We had such a warm winter, things survived that I didn't think were going to make it, like all those I left in nursery pots that I didn't get around to planting in the fall
Even my chocolate mint overwintered in a large container

Some I was concerned about were the thyme and heuchs in my one fairy garden, one heuch finally started to grow and is so teeny tiny I hope it makes it

It certainly has been different. I've never seen the flowering trees and flowering shrubs so full of blooms. They are just spectacular this year.

What kind of thyme is it?

How cute is that. I've never grown it. How quickly does it spread and Is it easy to transplant?

Those purple liatris of mine made it. And I also found signs of Joe Pye today. No butterfly weed yet, though.

I'm relieved to see that 2 butterfly weeds are starting to emerge. But the echinacea Hot Papaya is probably going to be compost food very soon. All 3 purple liatris are coming back too. The volunteer baby nepeta that I transplanted isn't doing anything. It's not growing at all, but it still looks healthy.

Thumbs up I need to go check on mine again.

I still don't see Echinacea 'Tomato Soup'. But the rest are up.

Hmmmm ... mine haven't been the fastest plants to emerge this year either. Hopefully more of yours will show up as well. Crying

Seems to me some of the newer ech hybrids aren't nearly as hardy (or call it "tough") as the old reliable purple ones.
