I was thinking...uh oh...dangerous! Hilarious!

What do you think about having a permanent spot in the Recent Images section for each of the "Biggie" genera?

Rose, Daylily, Lily and Iris come to mind (sure I am missing some).

That way one of those would always be displayed on the homepage to entice new people to the site, as those are the major genera 'players', so to speak, that alot of folks have interest in.

Just a thought.

I am thinking that the choice of which of the genera are 'biggies' could be pretty subjective. I grow none of the plants you list, whereas I have several hundred Plumeria.... Blinking

Good point, Hetty.

One spot could be reserved for Tropicals.

I was just thinking that it would be good as far as new people seeing the site for the first time.

Sometimes all the slots are filled with plants in one genus, which can be wonderful if you are interested in that plant,

but I think variety on the Homepage would really be a boost to the site.

Love the new feature but don't think any spots should be reserved. There are so many good photos of all the different plants and they all deserve equal consideration, IMHO.

Oh, I see ... it's still showing all the new database photos as they are added just like before ... only now showing 9 of them instead of 3! Thumbs up

There could be the usual 3 or 4 rotating spots(or 10 or 20!!), as in the past, for the newly entered plants so that would not change.

What I am suggesting, is in addition to those.

It is nice to see a display like that when you go on the homepage.

So how do we decide which genera would get permanent spots if that was the case?

But aren't the "biggie" genera served well enough by the random photo feature? Because of the sheer numbers of those images, they're usually roses, daylilies, lilies, and irises. I get really excited when I see a Plumeria instead. Smiling

Some possible candidates for Genus slots could be:

Tropicals
Daylilies
Roses
Lilies
Iris

You will still see what you have seen in the past, just "in additon to", so that the most recent photo for the genus could always be displayed on the homepage.

It is good to show what the site contains on the homepage. IMHO.

I guess I don't understand why some deserve a permanent spot and others don't ... especially on a site called ALL Things Plants. So with that, as the Sharks would say, I'm out.

Edited to correct spelling errors.
