Words cannot describe it. Wow. Simply WOW. The audacity? Holy crap. I was sorely tempted, I was I admit. however, I remembered how poorly they treated me & my mom a few years ago & swore never-again.

Yikes.

I'm so glad I'm no longer addicted to buying roses like I use to
and that J & P catolog always seemed to find my mailbox.
If I could only have the cash back I've spent and lost on worthless J & P roses.
They should be considered annuals.
J & P and cheap wax coated roses was how I got started.
That was back in 2000.

Hi, Trish. I could complain, I suppose, but from what I've observed, they'll probably advise me to plant them in the ground and stand back to watch them grow into champions. Their guarantee is good for only 60 days now -- not enough time to assess their vigor unless they drop dead immediately. The most they'll do is offer me a credit on future purchases and that's nothing I'll ever use (and I really mean it this time!). It hardly seems worth the time and effort. I might shoot them an e-mail to say I'm disappointed, but I'm not going to bother wasting telephone time on it. Warning others to avoid this company seems to be the best course of action.

That's possible, but there's a limit to how much time and effort I want to devote to this kind of thing. I should have known better. I already had a massive go-around with J&P four years ago and it was never resolved to my satisfaction.

I sent them an e-mail (titled "Are you kidding me?") and let them know how disappointed I am. They responded right away with an offer of replacements or a merchandise credit. I asked for replacements if possible. I hope they aren't sold out of all the ones I ordered, because I really don't want a merchandise credit.

Didn't they start being problematic about the time Park Seed, Wayside Gardens, and J&P merged? that'd be about the right time frame.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

I think I started having problems with them in 2007 and finally gave up on them in 2008. This recent order was my attempt to give them another chance, but they're even worse now than in 2008. I thought they went through another new owner before Park Seed, and I'm not sure whether that owner subsequently acquired Park Seed or sold its assets to Park Seed.

These takeovers never work out well for us gardeners. Edmunds' Roses and Heronwood Nursery were destroyed by the Jung and Burpee takeovers. There's nothing left of the old Edmunds' and Heronwood but their names.

I wonder how these companies stay in business?

I'm glad that you contacted them! At least you can hedge your bets between the ones that you already have and the ones that they will send you.

Thumbs down for bad takeovers!

That's the ticket, Trish. Surely, one of the two will stay alive. And if both do, then I'm way ahead. In my experience, most nurseries take care to send good plants as replacements after the first delivery has been criticized.

Janice, they stay in business because people suffer in silence. I'm so glad I have my ATP blog, where I can register my complaints and warn others.

I actually received a completely satisfactory delivery of fuchsias today from The Earthworks, so I'll be adding a new entry to the blog later tonight.

Word of mouth is the BEST way to know about things. The old DG's WatchDog is one of the best resources out there for people to find out who's good & who's bad.

Zuzu - you need to get your blog more facetime. Post a link on the ATP facebook page (write on the wall). That way not just us lucky souls here in the Roses will see it. Smiling

I don't want to join Facebook, Toni.

Garden Watchdog used to be good. Now it's full of defunct nurseries. I looked up Fuchsias the other day and got a long list of nonexistent nurseries, and many of the links for the surviving nurseries didn't work.
