So, what does everyone think of trellising beans on my fruit trees? The trees are about seven feet tall. It seems like a good idea to me.

I like the idea for the fertility building, but wouldn't the trees cast too much shade?

I grow purple hull peas (a variety of cowpea) in my orchard, but not right up against the trees themselves.

I hadn't considered the shade aspect. That will likely be a problem. I think I will try it, nonetheless. I'll let you know how I make out.

I see no reason not to try. The worst thing that'll happen is that the beans won't bear any pods. Smiling

Well, I sowed pole beans around my five trees. The trees are about seven foot tall. So, maybe shade won't be too big an issue. We'll see.

I've seen your trees. I don't think at this time shade is an issue for you. You might have an issue in a couple years, but you mine as well enjoy those beans now, I will be doing the same thing around my apple trees.

Thanks. The beans seem to be taking off just fine.
