Does anyone have this semp?
Mine arrived green.
Maybe the red color is seasonal?
Does anybody know?

Lots of semps go through color changes during the year. It probably will change to red now as the seasons are changing. I think the one they are selling is an un-named variety so I can't tell you for sure though.

I don't know if it's literally "unnamed", but they certainly don't tell you the botanical names of their plants unless you call to ask!

THANKS for answering!

Don, beautiful semps with a really lovely dark red stage. : )

Critter, that is odd that you would have to call to get a name of a plant? Many places just sell un-named semps, which is okay if you don't care about having the name. If you look at the base of the leaves of the semp in your above link, you will notice that they are green. It will probably turn green with dark tips.

There are some semps that stay dark purple or red year round.

I'll see if I can make you a list of one or two that will stay red year round.

Cool - I would appreciate the list.

I'm in the same zone as DEMinPA, but mine just came out of their shipping box and his were out all winter.

I really did want an all year "different" one as an accent among all my green ones tho.

The only one I have that stays red year round is this NOID. Wish I knew the name of it, but I don't, lost it many years ago. It is a smaller semp, about 2 to 2 1/2 inches across.
Thumb of 2012-03-27/valleylynn/9fa8a6

Rubikon Improved is supposed to stay red pretty much all year. http://www.northhillsnursery.c...

Darjeeling is suppose to be red year round.

How long have you had your semps Critter? Just wondering if you have been through a full year with them to see if they will be making any color changes. You can also scroll through the semp part of the ATP database looking at the thumbnails until you see something that you like. Thumbs up

Hey - thanks for the suggestions.

The ones I got from Michigan Bulb just got here last week. I've had 3 types of green ones for years. Usually they come as handmedowns so I rarely know their names.

I'm collecting sedum as well, with a focus on the evergreens. Angelina rupestre was last year's "plant of the year" for me.

I rearranged my whole front yard recently and added lotsa babies. I am waiting for it to "grow in" before I share. Looks kinda scruffy now - good, pretty plants with lots of ugly gaps. Got big plans, tho! As far as my aching back will take me!

Michigan Bulb doesn't seem to have the best rep on DG. Best be cautious.

My preference at this point in time is to only get named semps from reliable sources, such as members here or companies like SMG Succulents, Edelweiss Periennials and other listed in the forums. I would not purchase a semp generically described as "red" since they do not tell you the variety. Guess I'm becoming a semp snob!

Say it 5 times really fast: "Semp snobs seek special specimens specifically from perspicacious sources for spectacular snapshots"

Twitcher, I'd be twitchin if I tried!

Yes, I usually want the botanical name of everything. But sometimes I see something...... And sometimes I get things by trade or handmedown without them.
