I ordered a couple Miss Feya bulbs for Spring. Does anyone grow it that can compare it to Black Beauty as far as color, height, bloom size and overall quality? I'm thinking of giving Black Beauty away and putting Miss Feya in it's place. Feya looks a little more outfacing in photos. I can never really see BB very well.

Only other lilies I can remember ordering are 3 Purple Eye Asiatics and 1 Red Electric. Sometimes Spring comes and I get some I forgot I ordered. Always a welcome suprise!

I would say the lilies are about a month ahead here this year. Most all are showing tips. Looking forward to seeing everyone's lovely flowers again this year.

I have never seen Miss Feya, but Black Beauty does great here in Arcata. (Home area of Leslie Woodriff)

I had read somewhere that the original Miss Feya was a tetraploid. Does anyone know if this is in fact true? I have both and will be able to compare them this summer. I purchased some Miss Feya last fall so this will be the first time seeing it.
Michael, what is the difference between the two BB? You say one is tet. the other dip. but from the pictures I can't see any difference.

Both Black Beauty photos (regular & Tetra) looks the same. The original would not/could not set seed (sterile), but I think it was Robert Griesbach took and made a tetra. I think, (not sure) when they make a tetra out of an original the flower is larger, but they look the same. The bulb is a lot larger.

He is a photo of a tetra Lily bulbs. Its on a sheet 8-1/2 x 11"

Here's my Miss Feya. It's a first year plant, so I can't compare it to Black Beauty, which I also have. I would say though, it is not more outfacing.

Miss Feya is a tall grower here, maybe slightly shorter than Black Beauty, 5 1/2 - 6 feet or so. Needs no stem support. The flower is much more open and side by side, they don't look similar to me really.

Seems I have also read that it is a tetra. I have also heard that it is likely a lily renamed. I have used tetra trumpets to try to get seed, but have not had luck thus far. Will probably keep trying though.

Thanks. I ordered my Miss Feya from hirtsgardens on eBay. Look like nice bulbs. His plants are also always very nice. Recieved a couple new coneflowers and some tomatos along with the bulbs.

Today, I was at my local nursery in Eureka, CA. They had gotten a late shipment of lilies from Simple Pleasures. (one of the companies that had problems). They had 2 bulbs originally $6.99, but on sale for $3.50. I purchased 2 packages. Miss Feya, if bloomed correctly is a good deal.

Well, the picture on the front is correct, let's hope the bulb matches. Smiling

How did everybody's Miss Feya fare this year? Mine ended up being something else. As you can see in the picture there is far too much white on the petals to be Miss Feya. Another addition to my lilies that weren't.

I'm calling them today! From spring to fall 2011 I had 5 wrong lilies and 4 of 6 wrong daylilies all from the same company. I didn't know till now as some just bloomed this past few days. Grumbling

It must have been one heck of a bad year for bulb control everywhere. I know from my own experiences this past year, I had a couple obvious mix ups from sources that I never had problems with before. Sometimes tho, these mix ups can end up being nice surprises.

I called the company and they didn't see what the problem was. They tried to tell me I was the only complainer they had. So much for Vesey's, stroked off my list of acceptable mail order suppliers!
