After three years of waiting and wishing, I finally have a bloom stalk on my bergenia. The buds haven't opened yet, and we're likely to fall to, or below 30 degrees overnight. I know that the plant itself is hardy, but should I cover the bloom stalk, or will it be okay?

They are supposed to be hardy to zone 3. On DG a lady from Alaska said her's starts blooming when the snow is still on ground, kind of reminds me of a Helleborus. Thumbs up

It's not terribly attractive yet, but like I mentioned before, the wait to see it (at all) has been a fairly long one. Smiling

Big Grin Tee, I almost fell over in shock when I noticed that bloom stalk!! Hilarious! I'd pretty much decided to get rid of it if it didn't bloom this year... Rolling on the floor laughing and here it is!

Sometimes threats work, I think. Whistling

Yes, I think so too.

It sure is a pretty little thing. Looking forward to seeing it bloom.

I just broke off one of the shoots on a peony ... Grrrrr ... couldn't see it for all the chickweed. Well, there are still two or three others. I think I did the same thing last year. Glare

Nice plant chelle, I wasn't too happy about having to wait that long for a bloom but the lady on DG said she has some growing under her Birch trees and I was like Drooling I cannot find anything to grow there unless I bury pots, mostly hostas but even though the shade is good the ground is bone dry and the hostas don't like that. Sooooo these might be a good solution for me, I found a company that sells them for 5.00, top5-watchdog , probably small but least I can afford a few to plant there.

Susan, mine was a good sized set of plants. Perhaps smaller ones will establish faster.
