I am interested in a really good, smallish video cam. Have been interested for the past few years but really have a hard time deciphering what I might want.

Desires
To video my garden and estates
Gardens that I visit
Possible release of vids for you tube or even like my Power Point series.

So I am not interested in cheapos
Not interested in really high ends.

Something from 300-1000 dollars

Do you have any suggestions?

If I don't do it now, another year might be lost!

But, we could use this thread for all comments on what you have, what you like or dislike about it, and if you recommend it, why?

Thanks!

I don't have a camcorder - have never felt like I needed one, but I'm a huge fan of Panasonic's cameras, so I would definitely consider their camcorders.

Canon's another good option, as is Sony.

Canon's are sold out at NewEgg, but here's their Sony options:

Features should include still as well as video, and I'd want a high-resolution option for the stills.

Several years ago, I bought all of my kids those Flip video cameras. They were all on active duty and overseas at the time, and one of my sons said he would tape his camera to the humvee, and video everything. Those videos were invaluable to them. They really liked them.

I don't own a video camera, so I can't answer your question or make recommendations, but I think many of today's video cameras are so superior to those years ago, that it may be more important to find one that fits in your hand comfortably and is user friendly. ~Jan

I have a Flip. I am happy with it for what I do. I have no idea about the fancier ones.

Have you asked ... Is it Charles Dorsey? The guy who makes the hybridizer interview DVDs?

I like the Flip video camera too, we have one that my husband bought a year or so ago. Unfortunately it is no longer being made according to several sites I saw when I Googled it. Here is one of the articles: http://mashable.com/2011/04/12...

This site had some good choices that were based on what someone wanted the camera to do: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/

So did this site: http://reviews.cnet.com/digita...

Yes, Juli, I should.

He just ordered 5 of my Power Point Presentations to give a delivery to a Master Gardener's group!

I just had not connected the name. My memory of him is through Chacha's Winter Garden Sharing group!

(posted here)

I'll ask him, but I bet he has something way more expensive than what I can afford.

I do have a Rebel for my digital pics which is great. I would like the same quality for the videos.

Anyone else with ideas?

I was gonna recommend the flip until I saw you wanted more mid-high end. Check out those Panasonics... I have a lot of faith in Pana when it comes to cameras - been using/recommending them for almost 10 years now

Hello,
I have a Sony video cam. It is fairly easy to use and has features that I don't even know how to use Sad I haven't used it on the garden yet but I wanted something for my family vacations, big events and things. I purchased mine at Best Buy for less than $500 a couple of yrs ago. I hope you find one before bloom season.

Check out JVC video cameras. I have a JVC digital video cam and the videos are excellent sharp and clear as if you were viewing the subject first hand all over again.

Ok I just got my camera in it is a JVC Digital CyberCam Mini DV NTSC GR-DVF 11.
I doubt that they still make this model as I have had it for over five years. JVC makes quality digital cameras in MHO so I would check out what models they currently make. Good luck with finding one that suits your needs...Betty
