Hello Lynn! That plant grows in my area (montane forest of the south-west Caucasus~ 40 miles from Sochi) and it's native there. Should've been some of the sedum species, I guess. Thumb of 2013-01-16/yurikashtanov/d5dd38

What is this one George? It doesn't look the same as the S. spurium you added to the database. I would love to see a bloom from it. Thumbs up

OK, that plant grows on the huge stone on the hillside near my house. I will keep the track of it to capture when it blooms. Blinking

George, when was that photo taken? Does it go dormant in winter. What are your winter temperatures, how cold does it get?
Does this sedum stay upright?

Here's what the plant looked at the end of November.Thumb of 2013-01-18/yurikashtanov/00fabb You see it's sort of not upright here.

The winters being calm, I don't think it goes dormant in winter. Gotta check.
The day temperatures about 57.3F near the sea. In the mountains we have a little colder- around 44.5F and in the mountains at night it's down to little frost like 25F. That's for Jan. and Feb., which are the coldest.

It looks like it could be one of the Hylotelephium telephium, which used to be listed as a sedum, but is now in it's own category. Sure wish they would quit changing names on us. : )

Sedum 'Autumn Joy' is a hybrid that originated from the species Hylotelephium telephium, along with many other wonderful hybrids. Would love to see a photo of the bloom on the plant in your above photos when the time comes.
This is so much fun George.

Yep, just wanted to share the link of that hybrid.
I can't wait to capture the bloom of the wild one form, that grows on my hill. I agree

It was such a coincidence that i read this today because last night i was reading a site that i read a lot of info i had no idea about.Such as S. autumn joy or H.autumn joy. http://www.succulent-plant.com...

I didn't realize there were so many different species that sedum's had been moved around in or is it mainly the upright sedums. Some of the species on this site i had never heard of but was familiar with the plants as syn.sedum.

I looked for autumn joy this fall to plant in a bed,i had no luck finding it but the 2 i did buy were Sedum spectabile's not really sure about the spectabile.Does anyone know what it means or where it came from.I had someone tell me it was the plants with brightly colored blooms,i bought 1 named Sedum spectabile Neon, with beautiful neon pink blooms.Thumb of 2013-01-19/jojoe/f104e7
A green thumb comes only as a result of the mistakes you make while learning to see things from the plants point of view!!

Hi Jelinda. Right now things are kind of topsy turvy in the sedum naming world. They all used to be (recent history) under the Genus: Sedum.
They have been splitting different species of sedum and giving them differen Genus names.
Genus: Sedum, species: spectabile is now Genus: Hylotelephium, species: spectabile
So your Neon is Hylotelephium spectable 'Neon'. Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile 'Neon')
At this point we are leaving them as Sedum, but adding the new name for now as a synonym. It can be searched under both names, old and new.
