Bill is a seriously nice guy. He has kept in touch with us over the years and has never asked for anything in return. I am always blown away by the caladiums he sends. He is never exaggerating when he calls them "HUGE"!

During that 18 month period between when I left my old gardening site, and before I started ATP, he continued to stay in touch with me, which is something very few other company owners did. Even though I wasn't in a position to do anything for him, he was still nice and generous to me. That made a big impression on me that I won't forget.

When a company goes way above and beyond in so many areas of their business, they need to be rewarded by public praise.

I really like this new feature. I hope there are many more reviews coming.
Now, I am off to see if my zone can handle those beautiful plants or more precisely if those beautiful plants can handle this zone. I hope so.

Thank you for this article and GREAT resource for caladiums. I grow one pot every season and the last couple years hasn't been so successful as they come from the big box stores. Now I have a reliable source - thank you!

He's also close to where my sister lives so maybe I someday I will in fact get to visit Hurray!

Thanks again! Thumbs up

Trish: Thanks so much for this timely spring article about CaladiumBulbs4Less. I've purchased from Bill a few times over the years and I agree wholeheartedly that the bulbs received from his company are of the BEST quality! I love growing Caladiums in beds but I also have the habit of tucking a few bulbs here and there beneath container plants, as well as potting them up in hanging baskets. I'm in a new house now and have a lot of hot blazing sun and little shade but there are a couple of spots around my garden where Caladiums would be perfect, so thanks for the reminder, I need to place an order!

Sherri- You'll be able to grow them, but they won't over winter They don't for me either, as caladiums are only hardy to zone 9. Either pull them up and overwinter them in the fall, or buy new ones. It's worth it!

I am always mouth watering when I see the Caladiums from Bulbs 4 Less! Unfortunately he does not ship abroad, unless you buy 1000 bulbs!! Crying I bought bulbs from Ebay but they are very poor quality, nearly all of them where rotten, maybe I'll have one living out of 10 bulbs! They are so hard to purchase over here, in fact I don''t know any European company that sells them..

Trish, how do you over-winter your bulbs?

I've done sawdust, all sorts of stuff - refrigerate, etc.

Nothing I've done seems to work Confused

Well....I have had success, but not a whole lot of it to be honest. I just figured it was my lazy gardening habits!

I usually just bring in the containers. That has resulted in some making it, but loosing most of them. I've always been happy to have just a few make it.

Hopefully someone will come along and tell us the real way to overwinter them!

I don't know if this will help, but here's what I do, somewhat successfully.

Dig the bulbs before first frost and leave the foliage on.

Allow them to dry out in a moisture free area at about 70 degrees. Leave the foliage alone.
This will take time, and I can't tell you how long, but I usually let them dry until the foliage is totally crispy.

Once dry, cut off the dead foliage and store the bulbs in peat moss, very dry storage and not packed down and not touching each other.

Store in a place that can be kept at about 55 - 60 degrees. They don't do well at all if they get colder.

I've found that storing in a basket works best, something about keeping them dry, I think, maybe air circulation.

I believe the key to the whole thing is in the dryness and in the temps. They don't need moisture at all, it will cause rot. And they need to stay fairly warm, but not very warm.

I rarely ever lose bulbs over winter, but I swear by peat moss.
