I love all the sedums in beds and in rock gardens and in walls,....

I cannot get sedums to grow in my planters .. Don't know if it is 1 . not enough water 2 too much water 3. not enough light 4. intense heat.

None are planted in direct sunlight so that should not be a problem but it was soooooo hot this summer maybe that did them in.

Then of course there are the rabbits grazing around and about Blinking Blinking

The amount of water mine get depend on what kind of container I have them in. The Limelight doesn't get much water since the container doesn't "breathe" or have any soil exposed. I love the sedum too. The hot summer was hard on them though. Do you have any garden areas you can plant them in?

Old man's bones and Sedum Lineare-- I think it is, have to go look it up.

These are surviving in dappled sun with maybe 2 hours afternoon in direct sunlight. But the other sedume in
this bed are gone.

I have a little real dirt in a small planting section but the rabbits eat everything in there execpt the ajuga.

I enjoy reading about sedums...have a similar situation...have been observing the sedums I have. Knowing they are drought tolerant, before I do not water them often. This year I decided to step up watering this summer, like twice a week during summer especially if I know we are going to hit 90F and above, and I see a marked improvement on their growth. Well, I guess not only on my sedums but with other succulents I have..so now I have to re-think that aspect of watering. For sure I will have to scale back watering as temps go cooler....its been too dry here too...I guess our micro climates are such. Before I would water them heavily once every 2 weeks, in summer and much less when it is cold season.

Most of my sedum get 6-10 hours of full sun a day. Of course, our sun probably isn't as hot as yours.

In your first picture it looks as if the soil is green around the edges of the pot. Maybe it's too wet. Mine very seldom get watered, even the ones in pots.

Blinking Confused Blinking Confused Confused who me???

I tend to over water and have lost a good many semps this summer.

Also we had soaking rains for a couple of days Wednesday & Thursday so have not watered anything except my poor fall containers. Which were limp. They are under and overhang and did not get the soaking the others did.

Oh well, we will just have to wait and see what winter and spring brings. MAYBE.. something will survive. I am just so jealous when I see all the pretty pictures I want some of that too. Hilarious! Hilarious!

I have the " I'll have what she's having" syndrome. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Chris, your Limelight is beautiful. Mine has been doing well this year with more protection from summer sun. The small patch in the semp beds struggled, so I place a pot in partial shade with some cutting in it. It took off like it was on steroids. I now know for my area some shade is best for them. They have not required much water at all, seem to be very drought tolerant, if given a little shade. More water is needed in in full sun here, even then they don't do as well here.

Marilyn, it does look like you make have been over watering them. Also, bunnies will eat them, but you would see signs of them being eaten.

It all comes down to finding what they want in your growing conditions. Thumbs up

Does anyone have both Sedum divergens and Sedum divergens minus?
I would love to see a photo of the two side by side.
This one is S. divergens in a 4" pot.

It is hardy to zone 4 and has lovely yellow blooms in the spring/summer. A quite sturdy, no care plant.

Thank you tarev.
I can tell you, they are very hardy for both months of rain and over 3 month of drought. They have survived for two years in that tiny pot. I took pity on them this last week and planted them into one of the raised beds. Hope I haven't killed them with kindness. Sad
