Tami, most of the others are gallica roses (Cardinal, Belle, Charles de Mills) and they may not be the best choice for your zone. I'm in 9a and they're never covered with blooms the way they would be in a lower zone. They're also once-bloomers and you may want a rose that reblooms.

Yea, personally speaking, if you would be OK w/a single-blooming rose, I'd go with Veilchanblau. GORGEOUS rose, but a one trick pony. :(

How about Golden Showers (http://www.helpmefind.com/gard... Do you think that would work? Or Sky's the Limit (http://www.helpmefind.com/gard...) if you're looking for Yellow? Or Autumn Sunset? http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

Toni, bring a stem with bloom, leaves and some buds would be good too and we can compare it to my stuff. I've got quite a few possibilities. I don't like to put a name to a rose unless I can compare it directly, and even then it can be iffy. But CdeR definitely should be identifiable with comparison. I think I got most of these from high Country Roses when Dr. Campbell was running it in Denver.
Here's my CdeR
Thumb of 2012-04-02/tabby/d00cf4
Belle de Crecy (is a gorgeous blend of purple and pink, but can be all purple)
Thumb of 2012-04-02/tabby/41f3df
Orphaline de Julliet
Thumb of 2012-04-02/tabby/2ebc6d
and
Charles de Mills just because it's so pretty:

I never ordered Belle de Crecy and never even heard of Orphaline de Julliet. And I know where my Charles de Mills is, so by process of elimination... And your Cardinal de Richeleu has white flecks in it too, just not as pronounced. Maybe 'cuz yours is an older rose & mine's a 2 year? Plus you probably take a heck of a lot better care of than I do?

MollyMistsSmith,
François Juranville' might be a good one for you. It's a salmon pink rambling rose that John Starnes says does fantastic in Florida. It barely survives for me in my cold climate. If I remember correctly, he has it own root and it's doing fine despite that nematode problem that Florida has. Don't know if Georgia has the same problem.

Tabby - Yikes.. that's another house-eater! HMF has it that it goes from 15-25 FEET tall and ONLY 10 ft wide.

Only. But it's pretty, but another one trick pony.

"Plus you probably take a heck of a lot better care of than I do?"

I really really doubt that. All I do is remove dead wood. Actually, my husband does the pruning now since I'm a physical wreck. It's planted in Colorado crappy soil and gets watered via a dripper. But it is almost 25 years old.

François Juranville has repeatedly a little for me and more for some other people I know in the south.
In my climate it is just a pathetic little ground hugging thing, but I am amazed it has survived for me all these years.

Ok, I have narrowed my choices to autumn sunset or iceberg with clematis jackmanii. Now I guess I will draw straws. Hilarious!

Autumn Sunset is actually a shrub, which is grown as a climber by some people, but it doesn't get as tall as most climbers.

I need to get you a picture of my Autumn Sunset. It hit the roof in its 2nd summer. I trimmed it to keep it out of the gutters.

Wow, that's extraordinary. One of mine is about 10 feet tall, but the others topped out at 8 feet.

OK, went and dug around. According to the much faded & really filthy RU tag, this rose *is* Charles de Mills & I planted it in '10.

here's Rose Marie Viaud

Cool. I'll see if I can get a picture of the canes on mine later (gotta go somewhere today). I've got Charles so we can compare directly if you want to be certain. It really should bloom with a flat, sliced off look and be more deep pinky red than purple although it kinda ages purplish. It roots easily. I don't have Rose Marie Viaud though.
