Yes, heating systems dry out many of my plants too. I have a few houseplants that need twice a week watering. With the orchids, the hard times for me are the cloudy warmish days when the heat doesn't go on much. That's when I can over water!

Wow, so many gorgeous blooms! I really like Todd's NOID phal, Kathy's SLC 'Fire Magic' and all the beautiful cyms. I wish I had the space for the cyms and the expertise for that Vanda (drool!)... but SLC, phals and the more newbie-oriented ones are all I can handle at this point. I need more space and expertise before I branch out too much!

Kathy, did you purchase your 'Fire Magic' online or was it a local find? I would love to grow that one for next year.

This is a tiny preview of my Lc Fire Dance 'Patricia'. I have now 2 baskets of this, I count a total of at least 20 spikes!! They are a couple of days later than usual this year.
Looking forwards to the dancing fire....

My Dendrobium superbum 'Pink' x 'Blue' opened a spray of very fragrant blooms this week. ( another cane still to open) Dendrobium Nestor is still blooming too, so the two fill the upstairs with a yummy scent of Raspberries and a bit of Rhubarb.

It was snowing heavily all day today, so the greenhouse was a bit darker today with all that stuff on the roof.

Oh Ursula the color of Lc Fire Dance 'Patricia' is phenomenal!!! And Dendrobium superbum 'Pink' x 'Blue' is lovely. Love the way the lip curls.
Evey, Fire Magic was from the Amherst Orchid Society show last weekend. Can't remember the vendor. I'll check the tag in the morning for you.

I think they are ok to zone 5 with a good mulch or snow cover.
Can you plant them against the house wall or another really well protected spot to push a zone?
It will be interesting if mine comes back again after this harsh Winter. I planted it into the cage and it came back last year. ( zone 6b)

Hmmm. I don't know that anything is well protected around the barn. The Bernoulli effect is strong here between the buildings. I'll have to think about that.....

But, stuff is budding and blooming in the greenhouse so I am happy. My Dendrobium anceps shows unusual amounts of blooms this year.
I have a bit of trouble getting to it for close ups, it is hanging in a corner, but I tried.

3 months? Hopefully the Snowdrops are already pushing under the snow, they always jumpstart the Spring?
