A few years back I *think* a friend called this Indian grass...said he used to chew on it as a kid. I can get better pics if needed...was dodging rain drops

Ginger, did you ever get this? It's just like what I have growing. The ones out in the open field with full sun are red but the ones growing in shade tend to be more white looking.
