A friend gave me seeds from her MIL's multi-blue clematis and I forgot to plant them. Is it too late to get them started now? I was going to start it in a large nursery pot, do you think that would work, then when it started developing into a vine, transplant it in flowerbed and give it a trellis to climb.

Would appreciate any input from veteran clematis growers.

I have never started seeds, but I think most varieties are very slow to germinate. You need a sealed baggy with damp vermiculite and keep away from direct sunlight. It may takes months!

Thanks for the advice. I have a baggy and vermiculite. Do I need to check the moistness of the vermitculite from time to time? If I find it is getting dry, should I just mist the soil with a spray bottle or mist spray on garden hose?

I'm watching this thread because I too want to start some from seeds. Do they come true?

They'll only come true if they're seeds from a species clematis. Otherwise, they probably won't.

Who is Jasper? Confused Inquiring minds want to know!
I guess in theory no moisture would escape but it would be a good idea to check from time to time

Zu, he's the most beautiful thing in your garden! Thanks for another great photo of him. We have a black cat who wants to move in with us now. Actually, I think he's already moved in; we just haven't acknowledged it yet Whistling
