I grow some of my hardy species in containers. They are relatively drought-tolerant and can tolerate some shade ... but they aren't succulents. Green Grin!

I am such an enabler, aren't I? Hilarious!

It's been quite nice to see that picture of Blue Satin ROS on the front page. I love that plant.

I grow four varieties of ROS and six varieties of hardy hibiscus, but Blue Satin is definitely my favorite.

Thank you for supplying that photo to the database. Lovey dubby I can see why that would be a favorite, tabby. Blue isn't an easy color to come by in many plants. But it makes such a statement in the landscape. At least to me. I love the blues, lavenders, purples, both light and dark. Thumbs up

This is not a particularly good shot but here is another H. syriacus (double) in a friend's yard.

My neighbor has a fantastic ROS too. I saw it do so well over the years so I bought one. It's nice to have a blooming shrub that time of year.

I need to get a good picture of Violet Satin this year.

I enjoyed your article on one of my favorite plants. There are so many tropical hibiscus now that growers are continually cross pollinating them. It boggles the mind trying to collect them. I am getting more "picky" now, and pass up any hib that's leggy. I like the more bushy ones.
I do love the ROS also because they need very little care, are fairly drought tolerant, and surpisingly, the deer leave them alone in our yard.

This ROS has multi colored blooms. It's a very old plant and usually has more white blooms than anything else; occasionally it surprises me. I wish I had pictures of the various color shades side by side, but you'll just have to imagine them. Sometimes they are pink, sometimes slightly lavender, but always accompanied by the whites. Same plant, but I think it must have moods with a color to match each one.

Yes, indeed, more pictures of 'Blue Satin', tabby.

I know what's you're saying about the tropicals, Sandi. There are a whole bunch of them these days. When I left CA I said no more tropical Hibs because this isn't the climate for them and my house is full of plants in the winter. Well, I'm ordering a few of the tropicals shortly. What can you do? Green Grin!

Multi-colored blooms, Sharon ... beautiful. I love the white one! There's just always something special about a big ol' white bloom.

So maybe just a few more photos of ROS from a friend's neighbor's yard.

Well, they aren't uploading so quickly so photos later (I hope). Shrug!
