When the hosta "eyes" appear, I mix one part household ammonia with ten parts of water and pour this mixture around the eyes close to the plant. It doesn't hurt the plants, but it does dissolve the eggs that are laid around the roots. It has reduced the slug population noticeably. I also pour the ammonia solution directly on slugs that I see on the deck. Dissolves them right away.

I wondered whether I could plant enough Chard and Bok Choy to make them so full they would not bother delphiniums. Nope.

Besides, they might post my garden on the Slug Internet as a four-start restaurant.

There are a ton of slug resistant hostas and it is good information, I had to look else where for that information when I was selecting hostas. I still look else where, it is information I insist on having because of well.....Slug Problems. Whistling
