we got rat problem. Well not at the moment. Caught 5 in one night, just kept setting the traps. They kept knocking my plants over, eating my snail bait(doesnt kill rats) and theyd even built a nest under my cars bonnet on the motor (the car i drive everyday). Neally caught on fire. Where surrounded by paddocks so they come back.

You think that gator would be irritated by the time he arrived at Ursula's, imagine Bree trying to unwrap that sucker after a trip to Australia! Besides, I'll bet she has some crocs close at hand.

When I went to the Tampa Orchid Show and Sale last fall, I was looking for a Laelia purpurata and came away with a cross that was close. To these old eyes, the tag says "L. purpurata tep. estriado Sobre tosada.lab.sclido X self"
This vendor works out of Colombia, thus the Spanish. Does anyone know what this means?

Anyway, the first bloom just opened today and I am quite pleased even if I'm not sure what I have.

Jim

Thanks for looking. I couldn't find anything either. I know there are several color varieties of L. purpurata so let's just say this is a nice one and leave it at that. As a first time bloomer, I couldn't be happier.

My Lycaste consobrina is opening a couple of blooms.
The leaves are always dropped during the Winter and the plant starts budding along with emergence of new growth.

hi jim. I live down a little lower in Australia from the crocs (glad). ha! That purpurata is nice. I have a few and there labeled L. Purpurata x alba (ones the colour of yours).
I have seen a website with alot of different coloured purpuratas each named something different. I have one called 'Violetta' that i haven't seen flower yet.

Lovely blush on your L. purpurata Jim.

Great concolor bree, gotta love that one as well as the purpuratas.

Ursula, the Lycaste consobrina has a great presentation.

This is Lc Canhamiana (coerulea) 'Azure Skies' AM/AOS which is a little more lavender blue than picture shows and is quite fragrant.

Cattleya Choclate Drop, another of the deep burgundies digital cameras just don't seem to be able to capture with any sort of ease.
