I'm so excited -- my SF of DENTAL ACADEMY arrived yesterday!

http://www.rogers-gardens.com/...

I tried a couple of times to win this toothy wonder on the Lily Auction but always lost out, so this winter I wrote the hybridizer, Richard Akers of Rogers Gardens in Oregon, to see if he had any available, and he responded that he had one SF left that he could let me have. Well, I jumped right on that one...

And as a bonus plant (which was a surprise) he sent me one of his new introductions, GOBSMACKED, which is a GOD SAVE THE QUEEN seedling.

Needless to say, I'm totally thrilled and just had to share!

Just beautiful! Some day when and if it goes down in price, I will need to get one for my dentist daughter.

I honestly don't know if it was absolutely his last one -- He just said he had one single fan left that he could let me have -- but I noticed on his website that he's not showing it this year, only his new 2012 introductions. And I am sooooo thrilled to get it! I did buy 5 seeds on the LA of FULL OF TREASURE X DENTAL ACADEMY before I found out I could get a DA plant, but I don't know that much about FULL OF TREASURE so I don't know if the seedlings will show the toothy tendency. But I just had to try...

I had not heard of Akers before so went to his website. He has some neat seedlings coming along. I like that he is watching for openers, although from the pic of D A, I see some problems with the sepals. They are thick at the end which often results in the dimple seen. Pretty flower otherwise and I like the bud count and branching. I know, picky picky. Yup. Rolling my eyes.

Are you using it for hybridizing?

Will enjoy watching for seedlings out of it.

Thanks for letting me know about the thick sepals creating dimples problem. My goal is to come up with mini and small toothy daylilies -- and maybe toothies with some interesting eye patterns? But I'm working with tets, and it seems like most of the really pretty ones with beautiful colors and eye patterns that I see are dips. Sigh! I've been trying to find some of Elizabeth Salter's small tets that lean toward more toothy edges and she has a new one, MIX AND MATCH, that I'm agonizing over. The blooms are a bit large, but it has a wonderful double edge.

I barely know what I am doing, so it should be an interesting adventure!

Great goal!

I'd put it with the other one on that page. Geometry Wizard. That one would look great with teeth! 50/50 chance or something like that, right?

I also think it will be hard to get off the orangey/yellow/gold stuff at first so both would be a nice combo.

I hadn't realized that most teeth are on dips. Hmmm.

Does Jane Trimmer have anything interesting to mix with?

Oops -- no, I didn't mean teeth on dips, but rather the beautiful eye patterns and colors. I don't think I've ever seen teeth on a dip. Does anyone know of any dips with teeth?

Never seen teeth on dips, but some nice ruffles though.
