All About Herbaceous Peonies

By goldfinch4

For a spectacular flower show in your garden, herbaceous peonies (paeonia) in bloom can’t be beat. They’re a long-lived perennial, they make wonderful cut flowers, and when they’re done blooming the foliage provides a beautiful backdrop to other plants for the rest of the growing season.

I should like to know the name of the semi double pink which is in the article announcement.
I have not seen a peony of that flower structure before. Maybe it is not hardy enough for zone 3?

Caroline, I'd love to know what that one is, too, because I think I have some! There are three pictures in this article that look remarkably like my NOID peonies (there were 24 peony plants here when we bought the house), and I'd love to know what they are. One is the picture you mentioned, that appears on the homepage. Another is the upper right one in the set of four, with the white pom-pom and pale pink petals at the bottom, and the last is the raspberry pink, really ruffled and doubled one that appears to the far left, below the bare root picture. I know I can't absolutely know that I have the right names, but Chris (goldfinch4), do you know the names of those three?

And Allison, I agree, I NEED one of those fern-leaf ones, too! My husband would think I'm nuts to "need" another peony, but those are so distinctive and different! Lovey dubby

I don't have any fern leaf ones - yet - but I will soon!

Caroline, unfortunately the one in the article announcement is a NOID that was given to me many, many years ago. It was my very first peony actually. So sorry, I can't help you with that name.

Angie, if you put your mouse over the pictures in the article, it tells the name of each one. Just tell your husband that there's no such thing as too many peonies!

I love peonies, too, and don't have any! I want a big double white, pink and red, but it's hard to find them, here. I may go to Lowes, next month to see if they have any. They have nice plants.

There are some great mail order/internet companies out there that carry them too. Only problem with that is it's hard to pick only a few with so many to choose from! Hilarious!
