I have this Penstemon from seeds that puts up stalks like this from time to time. I know it's not possible to make the entire plant have the half purple and half gold look on all the stems, but I believe it might be possible to make a Penstemon like this with gold leaves. The stalk of this section is striped. One side is purple and one side is gold. What do you think? Should I root a cutting? I just want one with gold leaves to plant beside my purple ones. LOL! However, wouldn't a plant with leaves like this all over be awesome!

By all means, Clint, root a cutting. That is awesome! Who knows, you might just have the next big thing there. I'd certainly buy it. Green Grin! Hurray!

I have done this with coleus plants that develop a stem that's a "sport". Sports are common in coleus. Sometimes those colors or traits do seem to stay stable, a least few a few generations. Maybe eventually they'll revert back to look like the original but I have one that seems to be staying stable in the second generation.

If you get whole plants with that foliage, let me be the first on your begging list for a cutting of it. Hilarious!

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Mat.6:28-29
