Does anyone know if Venus is the most silver colored heuch?. I would need to buy 6 to contrast with a black lace elderberry but if the coloring is more green than silver it wouln't work.

I do not have Venus. But others to consider are Cinnabar Silver, Stainless Steel and one coming out this year Steel City. Hope someone has one I think Chris might.

I did not do well with Venus either, however, mine was a very, very small start I received in a trade.

Dormant - Silver Scrolls has quite a bit of silver on the leaves too and that one has been quite vigorous in my garden.

Thanks guys - I was so hoping for the almost white coloring of Venus but if it hasn't done well I don't think I'll try it. I'm leaning towards Lime Marmalade to contrast the black leaves and pink flowers or another option is Midnight Rose to mimic the leaves and flowers.

Dormant

I have a Citronelle with my Blackout. Yes, the combination does well to set each other off.

Here are some of my ideas.
You might think about 'Mint Julep'
These are the winter/springcolors. This winter it had burgandy red veins in it. Now it is turning all yellow. By summer it should be green. I bought this as a plug last fall. So it did winter over in the pot.

I lost the summer picture in my crash but it is in the data base here on all things plants. A very bright green with a silverish overlay.

This is 'Sugar Plum' A very large plant. Just bought this so no experience with growing

This is green spice, another work house of heucheras. Might look nice.
Last you might consider

Brunnera 'Looking Glass" very silver, this is the spring growth
These are plugs from last year.

No picture and I don't know what kind of sun the plants will get but there is a ghost fern tht is all gray. Sorry no picture. It stands about 18 inch high. Mine is 2 years old and in a pot so in the ground they may get bigger.

Hi guys - Spent the day diving daylilies and came in a few hrs ago. Julia thanks so much for posting your ideas. As luck would have it I have the LG brunerra coming at the end of the month so I can see how it looks! I forgot I even added it to an order until I saw your photo. Your leaves of Venus is what I was afraid of, more green than silver. Carolyn is right about Citronelle looking awesome with a BLE and that's exactly what I had there to begin with and moved it across the yard. And this is exactly how my schemes end up giving me a headache. And it all started with 4 Amethyst Falls Wisteria plants I bought 6 years ago in 1 gallon pots. I went to Home Depot and bought 4 very heavy wooden trellis for them to climb on. So this year 1 of them has gotten so woody it knocked the trellis down 45 degrees as the main branch had weaved in and around the cross slats. So the wisteria and trellis came out which was not easy digging the roots out. But the good news is I had some free space which certainly can't be wasted for 1 minute in a garden. Thats when I hatched my new scheme called the jewel tone daylily bed. I wanted some hot orange, deep purple and reds together. Of course in order to do that they had to be dug up and moved And I had to dig up a blacklace elderberry and move it back. And with heavy work boots on I stepped back with the shovel to dig the ble and smushed Citronelle in the middle of the plant with my heavy boot. I dug it up may have some pieces survive and I have another one in the shade garden so I could divide it up too now that I think of it. It's always a joke a minute here.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Ya, I know how that goes. When you get things together post a picture for all of us. Big Grin I'm digging my last wisteria out this year. It's only nice in bloom for a few days, then I have to keep trimming it to keep the thing check. I bought clemitis pixie to replace the beast.

Bummer about your Citronelle. Glad you have an "extra" one to play with. Sounds like an exhausting day of work, but I'd love to see pictures too.

It does sound like an exhausting day of work, but the kind of work I so enjoy. DH has to tell me when to quit, because I lose all track of time when I am doing that type of thing.

Another thing that is great with that combo, Dormant is add a Southern Comfort to the mix or a Caramel. The color contrast is gorgeous - especially in the spring.

Hey Bob - So sorry I forgot to reply to your suggestions. Really wish some of the nurseries here would have more of a heux selection so I could see Stainless Steel and also Gunsmoke. Carolyn, my husband knows not to look for me indoors again until October.

I'll be back tonight as daylilies arrived at the back door. I know I will have some extras for you heuxheads.

Our area nurseries don't carry very many either. And certainly no introductions from the last several years.
