Michele, the first photo of BBL x RS has more brown. The last one has more red. The last one is the prettiest to me. It could be just the bloom itself and not the photo. There can be alot of difference in each bloom on a scape.

This coming from a woman that the eye doctor told 2 years ago that I have cataracts and am probably having trouble with colors. So take it with a grain of salt.

I'm looking for an umbrella, but the choice is wide and I have to make a decision and I'm not going to do that tonight, I'm tired and I'd pick the wrong one for sure.

Mona, in person the colors look the same to me which is more like the last one. I took a photo today with the black umbrella and one without and there was a lot of difference in the color. There was no sun out today, it was cloudy all day, and the color was still off without the umbrella.

Thanks again Fred for the tidbit

I have an old navy blue umbrella. Think I will see what that does.
Might work. When I take pics of purples in bright sun, the substance
simply looks unattractive to me. Even to the eye, they look quite
a bit off.

OK, I'm bad slow tonight, but where and how do you use the umbrella?? It'll probably be tomorrow before I'm back. I'm calling it a goodnight and a great day. Thanks everyone, Mona

Mona, you just hold the umbrella over the plant you are going to take the photo of so it's shaded. There's no special way to do it as long as you can use your camera one handed with the umbrella in the other hand or have someone that helps you.

Useing a black umbrella is like sunglasses, it doesn't make it dark outside they just shade your eyes from the bright sun. I use black and white ones because they are netural colors and do not distort the color of the flower. I can tell you trying to find a new plain white umbrella has been impossible for me, the one I have is several years old and have looked high and low for a new one with no luck. They have lots of whites with poka dots ond other things but no solid white.

I have to keep going back over all these photos to get repeat
looks. The seedlings I have that will bloom for their first time
this year won't be anywhere as nice as these, so I am really,
really enjoying your photos. Very inspirational.

I ordered my white umbrella online because they don't seem to sell them in stores anymore. I got the photography umbrella however they do have the regular ones as well which I'm going to order because it has the handle plus I want a bigger one than I got.

I started a new thread
Taking photos of Daylilies, to discuss the issue of umbrellas or anything on photos. I was asking way to much to keep it with this one.

Someone gave me the links for a couple of places where you can get the white umbrellas. Here's the first, and I'll see if I can find the other one and add it here too.

http://www.adorama.com/WEU45W....

This is a year or two old, so I don't know if you can still order from this page.

And here's the second one:

Fred, your son has the touch as well. Nice, very nice.
All of these are nice, and I bet the ones you call ugly
will improve as the season progresses, especially if
these are the FFOs.

Fred you said thier not all pretty.... those sculpted midrib cristate forms look pretty darn good to me!! I could agree, color on the second isn't as clear but still, maybe something to work with. So many extremely pretty seedlings being shown of all forms and colors. It's nice being able to see results from several hybridizing programs...thanks for sharing them!

If Michele orders her another umbrella I am SURE she will order me one. Thanks for taking the time to comment everyone.
Char I will watch those two or any others to see if they continue to cristate and improve. I am waiting to see seedlings from the one your useing to see if it cares the form to its babies. Our club did the program on the new forms yesterday and most had never seen anything but the sculpted relief.

I think Char is going to do a thread for us here on the new forms so we wan't discuss them here.
Took no photos yesterday because of the club meeting, will try to do better today.
