Thanks, guys. Brassanthe Sunny Delight 'MAJ' has opened it's one flower. Not sure if it will straighten out but I'm sure happy to get to see it! And the first bloom on Cym sweetheart 'Spring Pearl'. You will see these again since there are 4 spikes full of buds. Please excuse these inferior pics shot at 5 PM in little light.

Both are nice but I am in love with Brassanthe Sunny Delight. Great color!

This NOID Phal opened last night. I bought it at HD several years ago and the tag just says "Phalaenopsis". I guess that is better than "four inch tropical" or "patio palm". I must learn to remember that the object is to get the plant out the door, not to grow it. There I go again. Anyway, it's a pretty Phal.

I found this Dendrobium hybrid, marked "Cattleya" on the orphan table at HD, about 5 years ago. I gave it lots of sun, thinking it really was a Cattleya, and it struggled for a couple of years. When it dawned on me that it was really a Dendrobium, it had already accustomed itself to the light conditions and started growing new canes. I let it be and it has rewarded me for the past two years. This year it has over 50 blooms and these are the first to open. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than smart. Big Grin

I know this is almost an impossible question but if you have a guess to its name, I would love to hear it. For now, I'm calling it 'Soft-Caned Cattleya'. Rolling on the floor laughing

Don't let my husband hear about the buying shoes. I really think that he will grow to appreciate my orchids, but I think he is a bit hesitant to embrace the whole orchid collection.

I have two Cattaleas, but this is the only one that blossomed this year. My white/yellow one (I have to get better about their specific names) looks healthy, had lots of new shoots but no buds. Any ideas? I moved it around a bit early in the season.... Thumb of 2011-03-15/belaschick/aa20da
This Phal was all but dead a few months ago thanks to my cat. I have a lot to learn, but one of my first lessons was to keep the door closed. My other phal did well, though. Thumb of 2011-03-15/belaschick/6f6581

I cannot claim to have much to do with this Miltonia, as I purchased it at the Amherst show a few weeks ago. I know that I will have questions as I continue. Thanks for the support!

Oh yes, that awesome fellow next to it is surely guarding the pretty Miltoniopsis? Nice Cattleya in bloom too, Jo!

Jim, I would perhaps image-google Dendrobium nobile for close comparison?

Kathy, Sunny Delight is a winner. Nice!

Jim, if you go to the right of the home page, where kathy has a listing for "orchid photos by alliance", the fourth Den. on the page looks like yours.

Lindsey, I think you are close on that Phal. Laurel thinks it may be Phal. Leopard Prince and after looking at the two, I think she is right. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I think D.nobile could well be a parent and it is on the one Carol suggested. I am missing the yellow spot however. We are real close and probable have a couple of the family members. There are just too many to pin it down.

Thanks everyone for trying.

Jim

There are still a couple more unopened spikes on my Lc Fire Dance 'Patricia', but the very first spikes are slowly starting to show their age, so I took a few more pics yesterday. Regarding spike count, this is just about as open as it gets.

Thanks!
Carol, you counted!! Smiling I just went upstairs and - counting in the yet un-opend spikes there are 23! And one additionally spike actually snapped off trying to push through the foliage. For me it is certainly one of my "big players" , I love this Orchid.
