Myself and my friend Wanda (also our daylily club president) are going on a roadtrip today!
We are headed 2 hrs North to Jamie Gossard's Heavenly Gardens to pick up our clubs adopt -a-plants for this year.
So excited as many will be 2012 intros.
Also can't wait to see his garden layout as it will be on the National tour this year.
Daylilies will not be blooming yet in central Ohio, but I will take pictures!

The trip was fantastic!
It was sooo cold outside that we did not spend any time outside but Jamie showed us around his greenhouses.
I felt like a kid in a candy store and my sweet tooth was hurting LOL

This is a terrible picture (think my camera fogged in the greenhouse)
but this is a Heavenly Spider Monkey kid that has each bloom stay open several days.
May get introduced next year

Wouldn't you love to have a place like this to hybridize with? I would love to have blooms now to play with!

Wish I had taken a picture of his puppies. 4 month old red standard poodles!
There were 10 boys and 1 girl - the girl had the sweetest face and all of them were so playful.

Our club recieved the entire 2012 collection of 30 plants.
We were so excited on how large and healthy they are.
By picking them up, they are already potted and many have scapes.
Can't wait till the adoption meeting next month.

Lisa this is great. Thanks for sharing. I would love to see his beauties first hand someday. I am excited about the Heavenly Spider Monkey kid. I bet the price is way out there but it would be great to get that trait passed on to loads of hems.

Hi, Lisa,

You wrote "/...../this is a Heavenly Spider Monkey kid that has each bloom stay open several days." Did you notice whether the other parent of the seedling was a registered cultivar? Or was it an unregistered seedling?

Thanks! : )

Nice to see Jamie inside his greenhouse!

Your group is lucky to have the whole shabang. Do I assume that you share pollen from whomever is growing it?

If it was cool in the greenhouse, that might explain the multiple-day opening. I have seen that in my garden in the late fall before a freeze stopped the blooming.

Dick, several participants (including myself and Joy in the Pacific NW) have seen multiple-day blooming daylilies when temps are low. In my garden that means daytime highs are no higher than the 60's F. (Kirchhoff's "Wild About Sherry" comes to mind in my garden; I posted two pics somewhere on cubits of the 1st and 2nd day bloom of a single flower.)

I'm just hoping to get info about which parent (i.e., Heavenly Spider Monkey and/or its mate) is passing on these genetics. : )

All the best - Elizabete

Heavenly Spider Monkey has been known to throw all kinds of strange genetics with the poly petal/petaloid stuff.

The greenhouse was very warm. He said in there is only lasts about 2-3 days but outside it blooms longer( 3-5 days). When he first showed it to me about 3 yrs ago he was excited but it seemed infertile (no set, no pollen). He says that this year it finally has pollen so he is using the genetics. Sorry I did not ask the other parent. I know that Jamie is great about keeping and releasing the genetics on his introductions.

Lilylady,

The host is allowed to use/share pollen freely.
They are just asked not to set pod on it as we want max. fan increase before it is returned to the club for auction.
Many of our club members are not hybridizers. Some will share, others seem to find it a bother since they don't dab.
Adoption plants are done by random draw so you do not get to pick. It seems I always draw a red full form (which I usually do not work with) Glare
