It is blooming VERY black right now. Picture doesn't come close to the true color.

Yes, the light is behind it in the picture - but I spotted it and had to go back for my camera because of the unusual color. It has not bloomed this dark before. Here is a previous picture of the same plant.

Beautiful, both the dark and the really red versions.

Well it's really supposed to be very black.... hence the name. I have always liked it but was thrilled to see it look so dark today.

Hetty, did you buy that one local or send off for it? If local it would be worth a trip (if you tell me where in Naples) to go get it.

I got up late Hetty 6:30 Hilarious! , I get very confused about which thread to post on, but I've already posted on another D.R. thread. I can't tell you how great it was to meet you in person yesterday. I'm thrilled with my purchase. Gee's if it weren't for you I would never have noticed the seed pod, I was too interested in looking at the caudex , I took the owners instructions to go home and it was a great ride passing oh so many nursery's,we stopped at two and got a batch of orchids for $3.00 each. Icy (my neighbor is going to give me panty hose Whistling with which I was instructed to tie the orchids to a tree with Confused . I'm very excited about planting seed again, got the pods tied up because one is very near to opening. Raining hard right now so will be busy preparing trays and potting soil.Again I want to say how very nice it was to meet you. Wish me luck with the seeds. Melissa, Bet I don't get addicted with the orchids! Desert Rose will always be my thing.

It was kind of funny, while I was at the door of the house (the owners) I heard some one saying ; Are you Jim? I turned around and she says; I'm Hetty. It took me almost a minute before I realized it was our Hetty. She looks exactly like her picture, but a picture doesn't disclose her great personality. I think I may have been to concerned about Icy my neighbor who is a Jamaican, and a bit difficult to understand because she doesn't wear her teeth Rolling on the floor laughing , she is my favorite neighbor and I often take her to garden shops. So far I've met 5 garden friends, and as could be expected all are great. I'm busy trimming a bougainvillaea tree and I'm dripping with blood, those thorns always get me. I think I'll name her bloody mary.

Thank you Mike, it's still raining here so the orchids are just sitting on my porch. I need to get over to the orchid link Melissa gave me to get info on which side (north-South?) of a tree to stick them on. I've decided not to repot the new black asia till the pods mature. It too is sitting on my porch.I'm not crazy about joining another forum, maybe I'll just go on to the south Florida one which I am already on.
