Honey Bees in the Garden: January

By Mindy03

Honey bees have been living on stored honey since the killing frosts in autumn took the flowers away. They will be eager for fresh food as soon as it's warm enough for them to fly.

I thought bumblebees were this humungous monstrous bee critters that looks sooooooooooooo ungainly.. how on earth can they fly?? I don't have any pictures of the ones that come by my place.. don't see them that often. But they're about 2-2.5" long, at least an inch thick and fly slowly.

Some black bees round and fat that I thought was bumble bees turned out to be carpenter bees. They bore holes in your wood. Destructive buggers too.

nyah, this article shows a pic of what I see as a bumble bee *as* a bumble bee. Never seen a carpenter bee. But I have these glossy black wasp-looking things.. I don't think they're wasps because their wings are different even though they have a wasp-like body. I never mess with them if I can avoid it.. they look evil.
