Honey Bees in the Garden:  January

Honey bees have been living on stored honey since the killing frosts in autumn took the flowers away. They will be eager for fresh food as soon as it's warm enough for them to fly.

ago. Hurray!
It's been on my "wish list" for years!

The first place we really notice masses of honeybees here is up in the boughs of the maple trees. Their combined sounds make a very noticeable hum!

Thanks Chelle. It's usually too cold here for the honey bees to go foraging during January. Yes, maples are another bee plant. You can find more plants listed for each month in the Plants for Honey Bees database by entering the month in the search this database field.
