Which honeysuckle vine would you recommend? I need to get one for my garden and am debating on which one to get I already have Dropemore Scarlet. I am thinking another variety in red would be nice plus it should be long blooming like spring to fall.

Hi, Betty.

I'm not much help here. I'm leery of adding honeysuckles of any kind now. Whistling We have one here that's a real bear; can't kill it, and it travels everywhere it wants to...underground.

Hopefully, someone else here will be able to give a recommendation. Smiling

Thank goodness that they don't go crazy here. Now the trumpet vine is another story sound like the honeysuckle in your climate.

I will check out the garden centers we go to and see what they have to offer.

Will check it out to see if it would be hardy here. Scented would be a plus. Great idea to grow it on a old ladder. I have a wrought iron arch guess you would call it that my hubby made for me. The side where you see the thick trumpet vine is where the new honeysuckle vine will go. I have cut down the trumpet vine and painted some brush killer on the portions above ground. Click on the photo for a larger size to see detail.

The best trumpet honeysuckle I have is a red one named MAJOR WHEELER. Not that easy to find but I really recommend it. Non stop blooming from spring till late fall and those flowers are just so pretty. If you would like a trumpet honeysuckle in solid bright yellow instead then look for JOHN CLAYTON.

I will check them out does Major Wheeler have a scent? Hmmm maybe John Clayton would be nice to have something different.

No, none of the trumpet shaped honeysuckles have any scent. The hummingbirds do love them though just as much as the regular shaped flowered ones. Hummers don't care they love them both. I have never found any honeysuckle that smells as good as plain old fashioned Japanese Honeysuckle does though.

Thanks Rita! Where do you order your honeysuckle vines from in case I can't find those around here?

I don't know. Bought many locally and the mail order ones were from so many years ago that I can't remember. I know I bought the JOHN CLAYTON and MAJOR WHEELER on line somewhere long ago.

Guess what? I just got a new High Country Gardens Catalog in the mail. Looking at it I see they have Major Wheeler Honeysuckle. So you might try there. I usually get Agastaches and Salvias from High Country.

I will take a look locally first then if I can't find one I'll check out High Country Gardens. Seems to me like I have ordered from them in the past. Thanks for the info.

Did you ever find a honeysuckle vine? I grow one that many consider rampant, invasive but I have never had it reseed or spread from its current spot in at least ten years. It is about six feet from my front door, the scent is heavenly. It's flower are yellow and white.

I recommend a yellow one: John Clayton and Sulphurea are both beautiful. I grow the native coral honeysuckle and Sulphurea together, and they bloom simultaneously. You can see a photo taken last Easter on my website.

I did find a Major Wheeler honeyscukle vine that I ordered online from a nearby state can't recall the garden name seems like it was in Michigian they sent a very nice sized vine. Marjor Wheeler has been planted for months and grew very well next year it should really take off and climb even higher on it's support.
