Ursula, I believe Sobralias are only supposed to last one day, but continue to put out blooms all summer. I'll let you know when I know.

Lindsey, the only major difference I can see, without seeing the plant is that 'Newberry' seems to have better form. You can bet that the 'c' is C. dowiana !

Jim, I can see your dilemma with the photos. Both the David Sanders pics are equally good, in my opinion, and the Stanhopea doesn't allow detail in that large cluster. All pretty though!

Lindsey i think newberry has a all over pinker background with the spots while mendenhall which has a yellower background with the spots. Yours has this, i don't think its mislabelled.

I agree! Carol, the Laelia Pacavia is a beauty and a Sobralia with longer lasting blooms is great! The blooms on Sobralia callosa last barely a day.

Ah! That must be where I got the idea that the blooms didn't last. Sob. mirablis is still looking good this morning, but I'm not finding any new buds.

I took the leap of faith and here I am. I was expecting some fanfare, a little music perhaps and cheese and crackers with a glass of wine? Whistling

Nice blooms, Lindsey. I recognize most of them. As for the background, I think it depends on the orchid and just what you are trying to show. Some of my darker orchids just don't show well with the black poster board so I have used the sky or the pool as background. Busy is OK but I try to set the camera to blur it some. The white orchids seem to do best with a foliage background.
