Hi!
I'm kimkats and I can usually be found over on the daylily forum.
I have a question reguarding broken Lily stalks. If a stalk gets broken off by fat birds resting on it will the bulb send up another stalk and bloom this year? or am I out of luck for bloom this Year? I had two beautiful thick tall (3'already)bloom stalks on Lillium commander and both have been broken off within the past week by fat crows sitting on them I don't have many true lilies since I'm deathly allergic to the fragrance or pollen. Yet I love them. I'm so mad I may not see these this year Thanx for any and all help reguarding this post.

No blooms this year ,sorry. If there isnt much stalk left, say only less than a foot, you might loose the lily. I broke one the other day. Mine arent up very far so I;m not sure if the lily will make it.
Completely broken off or badly bent? Even if it's badly bent or cracked, use floral tape to go around the break and then add chop stick and more tape to make a splint. Or masking tape and a dowel. Or a stick. I've used any combination of the above in moments of desperation. Your lily just might be OK.
If completely broken, then give what is left a clean cut and rub the cut with Ajax or Comet (perferably something with bleach) Any foliage that can be left on the remaining stalk will feed the bulb for next year.
I feel your pain ~ I'm off to do something drastic to the bunnies....
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?
Thanks all, for answering. I started back to work 6 days a week for the summer pool season madness. This is the first chance I had to check back. I thought I was outta luck. At least they were nice & tall so there is loads of foliage to make energy for next year. I may move it further away from My mom's bird-feeder it must be too close. Moby, the bunnies & I have a long chat each spring about the dangers of eating my daylily seedlings. I tell them they are more than welcome to eat all the weeds and the neighbors veggies, but touch those seedlings & it's war! Last year I had 4 baby bunnies that spent the summer weed-eating in the seedling bed! Really. No Lie. They never touched a seedling. This year I have bigger fish to fry. The deer have been spotted strolling threw the abandoned yard next door very close to our 4' fence and about 200 of my best daylilies
