I also got my little scale from USPS.com but it only goes to 10 lbs. Mona, it is cheaper to ship online also, every time I make a label it tells me how much money I saved by printing it online, maybe 50 ceants or something, but you also save by not having to pay for delivery confirmation. Oh yeah and the price of gas is sure not cheap. My son hates to drive me to the post office and the traffic is worrisome. He drives me everywhere now, he thinks I forgot how to drive when I got old LOL. I don't care, I just look at the scenery and relax.

Thanks all, I forgot to put on there but the first one is 8" and looks like a giraffe face to me.

The last one is nearly 7".

The other two are only 5".

I was amazed at the size of the first one. Of course it's a first flower ever on it, so it will probably not be that big again.

Hi to all today, I'm having many pistils that are bad. Bent, multiple pieces, oh gosh, just not properly formed. I've also noticed that I'm getting broken scapes and broken off pods with just the least bit of stress to the plant. Now, I've probably gotten 5 times more scapes and buds than I've ever had. Also, the weather has been really strange. Due to the warm weather, the plants have grown so quickly that I think everything is really tender due to the rapid growth??? Is anyone else seeing the same things in their gardens?

Well, I have seen the pistil thing, bent, not properly formed, many (split) pistils. I don't know if anything causes it or it's just a thing that happens, but it's not unusual for it to happen here. I have been told that it happens more on tets than dips, but not sure how true that is.

Now for the pods, they may be breaking off because they are aborting. Just because you get a pod doesn't mean it will want to stay there. Sad I have had some that are big and fat and then decide to abort. I had tons of pods on one daylily, probably 20 or 30, and one by one they have slowly aborted. I think I have 2 or 3 left. Usually means the seeds weren't viable or that there were no seeds at all in the pod. I have opened up some that I new was fixing to drop off and there were no seeds at all.
How big are these pods that are breaking off? I'm sure there are other causes, but this is just what I have observed here.

Now for the upside Mona, you know good and well if every bloom took or most of them you would have wayyyyyy too many seeds to plant and you would run out of room that much sooner nodding nodding So think of it as a blessing.

Scapes getting broke is probably scape blasting. If the daylilies get too much water too fast it is said they can blast. Have you had a lot of rain lately. I read somewhere else, may have been the email robin, that the people who gets lots of rain that they usually don't get they see more scape blasting. Someone mentioned somewhere that a lot of fertilizer will do it also, but that may not be correct.

I think you are right Michele. I said pods, it should have been buds. I've broken off several bloom buds with my backside and also with a small gentle touch of the hand. I guess I'm being rougher than I should. Whistling

I'm just getting the start of pods setting and so far they are good. I have had a few do the "half pod" thing where one side isn't formed and I just broke them off. I've found out in the past that they usually abort anyway and I'm of the opinion that at this early stage, when in doubt, through it out!! I'm setting seed pods really good so far. This has been so much better than last year. It's also been so much earlier than last year. It's been so much COOLER than last year. I've been super careful with my pollen. I did put some in the fridge last night and used it today. I hope it takes. I have been freezing it but I knew I would use this today, so I just left it in the fridge on my top shelf where it gets really cold(stuff will freeze in this one area if left too long).

I've had some of the best blooms this year. The repotting I did last year is really paying off in quantity of scapes(bunches) and blooms that are so clean and pretty. I'm quite sure the fertlizer that I'm using(Florikan, thanks to you!!) and the alfalfa pellets has really caused a lot of new plants and gorgeous green plants. So, after recovering from the fungus gnat invasion(Bayer Tree & Shrub) again that you recommended, life is going really great right now. I'm so tired that I'm plum silly but other than that, it great!

Thanks Michele, you've been a great help to me.
