And remember the FRUIT PUNCH poppies from Graceful Gardens? This is a picture of blooms from ones I bought last year. These are the pretties poppies I have ever seen and they are really large.

They are in different colors. I had an orange, an off orange and now these two different shades of peach. But I know that there willl be more colors as more blooms open. What you really can't tell from these pictures is that the flowers are LARGE but on nice stems only about two feet tall or so. Just perfect, I think.

Has anyone ordered from Bluestone yet this spring? I got a catalog from them and it seems they have totally changed their plants. They say they are now in 4 inch peat pots. They used to have those really small plants in the three pack plastic thingies. That is what I liked, you got three plants for the price. Now I don't know what to think.

No, I stopped buying from Bluestone when they raised prices so much. And I think their pots are actually 3" coir pots. I liked the cheap little pots better too, Rita. I posted this last summer:

Karen, thanks. I thought I remembered something about their plants now. I thought their prices this year were high myself. I bought the nicest small lupine plants two years in a row and the small size really worked for me, Those plants are growing strong. And I got lovely chocolate sedums. Again, liked it because of the small plants. I guess the catalog will go in the trash now. I wonder how much their business will go down because of this change.

My order from Bluestone Perennials is on it's way. Folks have said the plants are much larger in the bigger pots, so I am going to see within a few days. I had some problems with the small plants being to hard to get established. I like the plants in larger sizes they don't take so much extra care befor they take off and grow, at least that is the case in my climate.

Well, I would certainly hope so. The prices are higher and it is for one plant instead of three so those plants better be bigger.

I don't have any problem with small plants establishing in the garden. I'm not one to fuss with them either. I plant 'em, then they're on their own. It's sink or swim. Hilarious! I really think that starting with good, healthy plants is the key. Even tiny little ones generally do OK if they've had a good start.

Of course, I'm used to transplanting my wintersown stuff into garden beds at first or second true leaf stage- tiny! So something in a 3 or 4" pot seems big to me. Hilarious!

I had an order that came in from Bluestone this year. It wasn't bad.

I generally like small plants. With our clay, I prefer to have them get used to our soil as soon as possible. It just works better for me. So I was not pleased about Bluestone changing to larger plants in coir pots.

The order that I received was packed with nice cardboard inserts. I liked that but they could have done that without changing the size of the plants or adding the coir pots. The plants were moist and in great shape but so were the plants in the smaller pots in previous years. Plus, I live in the same state so they are shipped in one day. The plants are larger now.

I'm happy with my order but they've mostly lost me as a customer. Last year I bought 72 perennials from them. This year I only bought 10---and then only because they were all 50% off. I don't have anything negative to say about my order but I'd prefer a company who fits my needs better--one who sells small, inexpensive, healthy plants like Bluestone used to.

Yes, I took pix of the plants and packing just so I could post them here but I haven't downloaded them yet Big Grin I also have pix of my orders from HCG and Lazy S's.

I just don't like the idea of the change.
