Hi all Smiling

I have a problem and I'm not sure what to do. The postal service is showing it has delivered a package to me that it has not Grumbling I have checked with all my neighbors( haven't heard back from the night nurse yet)and checked the abandoned house next door. No priority package.
I have emailed the seller to let them know. It's not their fault but I felt they should know. It was not my normal mailman since he always brings packages to the porch. My retired mom is home all day to receive packages as well. Is there anything else I can do? Or am I outta luck, plants and money??? I guess I could have bought postal insurance , but that just seems like extortion to me. You know buy some insurance so your package your paying them to deliver actually does get delivered to the right address. Angry Grumbling Crying

Mostly just needed to vent, but suggestions welcome.

Kim, have tou talked to the post office or to the specific mail person who supposedly delivered the package. Do you suppose someone took it if it was left by the mailbox? I think I would try to find out where the package was left in relation to your house.

Go to the post office and have them track it, if there is a confirmation number. I had a problem with a new mailperson, but that is a whole other story.

Last year I was expecting a plant delivery and it didn't come. Finally I contacted the seller and asked where the package was he informed me it had been sent and that he would check on it. He sent me a message that he had sent it with my address but to the wrong state. He sent me another shipment and later informed me that the original finally came back to him. Just saying you might also want to check with the seller besides checking with the post office.

Wow.. that is a dilemma! Beyond asking neighbors, I don't know if you have another option. Maybe someone stole it off the porch. I always send packages with delivery confirmation and that's all a seller can do to ensure it gets there.

One day a substitute mail girl hung a box of seeds, irises, and rootings I had ordered on my mailbox in a plastic bag. When I got there, the bag was there torn open and empty. I called the post office because I thought it was irresponsible to leave a bag for everyone to see and easily take. The reason I was so angry was that when I called to reorder, they quit taking orders for those things. A few days later the young woman mail person came to the house to pay for the forty dollars worth of things for which I had an invoice. She was crying to my husband that this was her first week on the job as a substitute so he only took $20.
I hope she learned something, but I have never seen her since. I don't think she is employed at that P.O.

Hi all,
thanks for letting me vent and for the suggestions. It finally showed up. Apparently a distant neighbor thought it was her husbands and didn't even read the label! Blinking She brought it to my mom while I was at work today. They were all looking really good and the seller sent a bonus too. All ends well.

Now that really sounds suspicious to me. Why would a DISTANT NEIGHBOR take a package that was not delivered to her residence but another and then not check the label and just assume it was her husbands. Something is rotten in Denmark or MD. I would notify the Postal Service just so they know what has happened in case they had this happen with this person before. They may want to keep an eye on this.

Had the box been opened? Wonder if a child might have picked up and took it home and finally gave it to the parent? Wonder if an adult might have picked it up and then got a concious and returned it? Sure looks funny to me too.

I would probably let it go but I would also ask for delivery confirmation from now own. How much extra does that cost? It might be worth it to have peace of mind. The PO then can atleast see the handwriting.

I'm fixing to get into the selling end of the business and I may very well require it. It sure would help if something gets lost. I had a package disappear about 4 years ago. When I contacted the gentleman about my order. He said the packaged had been mailed 2 weeks earlier. I din't get an email about shipping and I didn't even know it was lost. He immediately sent another but I always felt quilty, like I had done something wrong. It was only 2 plants and about $25 total, but still, I really felt guilty taking the second shipment. If as a seller I sent out a big order, it would reallly really hurt me to have to replace it. so, the delivery confirmation really sounds good.

It is a blessing that you got it back.

That's just it. it had delivery confirmation and it was showing as having been delivered. Well it was, just to the totally wrong address. It wasn't even the same road, it was the street across from my driveway! The driveway that was clearly marked!. I'm so worried my regular mailman is going to retire. He never does this, he always brings it to the porch and even will chat for a bit. I know he is getting close to retirement and I dread getting someone who doesn't care the way he does. I too thought the timing of getting it was a little off. Isn't it amazing that on the very day I spent the morning asking all the close neighbors it would be found at a distant neighbor???? Let's just say I'll know where to start if anything else is missing. Whistling

Nope, it just lets you know it was delivered. Which is usually enough except when it is delivered incorrectly. I think to get a signature it has to be certified or registered. Not sure completely on that , perhaps someone else will chime in.

Mona I have never had to sign for a package even from UPS that had daylilies.

The delivery confirmation is the green tag that just says it was delivered.
The signature confirmation is the pink tag that requires a signature. However, if delivered to wrong address or a not so honest person signs for it ( and uses wrong name) then it does no good. If the correct name is used then you may know who it is. It still does not tell you where it was delivered to just that it was delivered. Also, you will have to contact the post office for a copy of the form if it doesn't show up where it is supposed to.
The return receipt is the one that is proof of signature (the person has to print name as well) and the actual delivery address. The mail man is supposed to write the addrerss it was delivered to if different than the address listed on form. This is not trackable online, you have to wait for the receipt to be mailed back to you or you can select for it to be emailed to you. If you want instant confirmation then you would need to add delivery confirmation also.

Mona you said "I'm fixing to get into the selling end of the business and I may very well require it." and "I would probably let it go but I would also ask for delivery confirmation from now own. How much extra does that cost?"

The delivery confirmation is usually included in your shipping fee. Any daylilies that I have ordered, this is always included. It's just a good practice to include it. It is an extra 75 cents.
Now if you want the one with signature confirmation (that you were thinking of) it cost $2.55 extra
The return receipt has 3 different prices....$2.35 for mail receipt, $1.15 for email receipt, and then there's one if the package has merchadise for $3.95.

If I was you Mona I would include the delivery confirmation and if you are wanting the other then you can offer it as an optional add on for the extra cost. Most people are not going to want to pay the extra cost for this and I would not require people to do so, just give the option.

If you do the del. confirmation online it's free and the other is a little cheaper than going to the post office.

Mona,

If you are going to be shipping a lot of things, go to USPS.com and sign up. You can print out your postage, attach it to the boxes and then ask for carrier pickup, all online. When you print your postage there, you get free delivery confirmation, and ALSO you can click the little box for email notification. In other words, when your package is delivered you get an email as well. It is SOOO easy. No going to the post office, waiting in line, then paying more plus paying for delivery confirmation. The only problem is this, your regular postman is out sick, you get a new mail person, she takes the package pickup notice ( the paper they have that tells them to pickup), she puts the notice in your mailbox and drives off. You are too slow to get to the door in time and off she goes down the street, leaving your six boxes sitting on the porch. I was SOOO mad, I finally got the right phone number for the post office and called them. She came back later looking really dumb. Asking, which copy do I keep? What do they teach them, nothing??? Anyway, other than that one time, everything is easy. I am also going to post this on Monas page.
