Looks a bit like a lamium. Do you have a photo of the leaves?

This one remember me of some flower of a Salvia species.

Like Salvia nemorosa

http://www.bluerivernursery.co...

http://www.biopix.com/wild-sag...

but I think they are several species with similar blue flower in Salvia.

I agree sage...
How about Salvia lyrata? or Salvia verbenaca?

Really difficult to pin down without foliage pics.

The flower structure doesn't look quite right to me for Salvia, close but not quite. Certainly looks like it's in the Lamiaceae family and I'm leaning towards Nepeta.

@FBTS Maybe Kermit can give some assistance since he is very knowledgeable on the Lamiaceae family.

I agree that it's Nepeta, probably Nepeta 'Walker's Low' or some other N. x faassenii cv., or N. cataria (more likely the former or similar).

@jmorth
You say you snapped the picture on a Friday near work - would that be recently as in last Friday? if not, what time of year did you find these flowers in bloom? That might help.

It was in early May.
I'm trending to think it's a catmint, probably Walker's Low as the bed was made by professional landscapers and I think utilization of that plant was/is currently in the vogue. I've since retired due to an eye problem that impacted my willingness to drive the 15 miles to and from there.

Good luck with your eye problem, jmorth. I hope it can be treated successfully.

Walker's Low is lovely but spreads far and wide so I've deleted most of it.

Thanks pirl; I may be entering the last phase to get eye rectified; it's been a long process involving multiple surgeries.

Okay, now we have some information we can use. Professional landscapers in central Illinois - and the OP who actually saw the plant thinks it may be Catmint...

This site lists 5 types:
http://urbanext.illinois.edu/h...

This site thinks one particular catmint "Blue Wonder' is a good choice, especially in drought conditions:
http://www.gardenillinois.com/...

Hope this helps.

Despite general agreement from whoever those parties are, it would be pretty hard to assign a cultivar name without seeing the actual plant, rather than just a flower spike.
