I promise no naughty pictures. But here's an example of a wonderful nano-photograph. Anyone guess what it is?

Cross section of a tiny plant stem: a rose, perhaps.

So, if it's not a stem, then a freshly cut root, bulb or tuber?

I've changed my mind back to thinking it is a stem. I don't think it is a rose stem - I've cut way too many and they don't look like that.

Something fast growing and not as woody given the look of the xylem.

:)

Ok, hints: It's edible. It's commonly found in many many kitchens & is readily available year round in grocery stores. It's highly nutrious and delicious. It's something that you can eat raw or cooked. Both adults & children love it. This is a natural thing, not man-made. They come in a variety of sizes but usually one of 3 colors is desirable, although all 3 forms of the coloration is edible.

Is the part shown the edible part?
I'm guessing it's not.

Tabby - actually it is the edible part! And the non-edible part. Actually, from what I've heard, the whole thing is edible.

If it were misspelled could you find it in my roof? Could it be a leek?

No, wait. It's nutritious? I give up.

Leeks are very nutritious & make a wonderful soup. But no, it's not that.

Another hint: Look at the color. How many edible things are that color?
