Remember this guy? I need advice for repotting plants like this one, particularly in the holding department. Cant use tongs, cant tie it up, can not put a newspaper around it....

I'd still use tongs on this.

I'd use a wash cloth. It will remain separated to the plant afterwards but you can separate it carefully by holding down the body of the plant with a chopstick placed in between the cloth and the plant while you pull up on the cloth.

Hold it with the wash cloth from above, Stefan. The chopstick is not stuck in the soil. Read again, please.

That size tongs is frequently sold (here and in the US anyway) for barbecue and outdoor grilling.

Well, my tongs must be a lot larger than yours then. Not sure how easy (or affordable) it is to get stuff from Amazon.de, which I would suspect would be the closest amazon to you. Probably difficult, but I got a set of 3 sizes of 'salad' tongs from amazon in the US, the largest would be able to grip that cactus just fine.

Use an empty plastic pot about the same size as your cactus plant. Put it over the plant, squeeze gently and move the cactus out of one container into another without getting pricklies all over your hands. Keep the cactus plant in the second container upside down until you have cleaned it and are ready to repot.

Too flat for that. Aslo tried.
Main problem is the lack of a surface to grip the thing......

I've used old towels to wrap the plants, and then toss the towel once the cacti is potted. I learned the hard way not to use leather gloves. I ruined a very expensive pair by getting them totally filled with glochids.

In my experience, what works well is cardboard. I've transplanted barrel cacti with this method: Cut a strip out of a box and wrap it around the cactus. Its needles will pierce the cardboard but not all the way through and you should be able to grab it and hold it that way.

I hope this helps.
