Thanks Todd,
This doesn't sound too intimidating for a newbie like me,
now if I can just find one to buy!

Nice article Todd! Here in So. Cal. we usually grow the large , tropical types. If our summer isn't too hot, for too long, they do very well outside, but when we have a long, hot summer, they fail to bloom, even with the cold nights in the late fall. Three of my four bloomed this year, but after a few of those hot summers, they weren't spectacular. I grow mine in straight bark, and the problem is that it breaks down too fast, so they get repotted too often, and like most orchids, they prefer to be pot-bound. I live in an area where there is a concentration of Vietnamese, and they grow them in full calif. sun. I have even seen them sheared back to about 4 inches. I don't know how long they last that way, but it seems to work for them.

Very interesting. Did you move yours? Will you divide it too?

I will move it today into a warm spot. I will not divide it yet, first it has to bloom!
Btw Mr Cym/Andy is Andy Easton, he knows what he is talking about. He is a professional grower/hybridizer.

I have grown several Chinese cyms in the warm room in the past with no luck so I'll wait and see how it works for you.

My Cym ensifolium got chilled outside and I kept it in the coldest spot on the North door in the greenhouse until today. I moved it near a warm vent into a sunny spot. Now let's see what happens. I understand this, that one needs for one cycle to keep it cool and then warm it.

Right now 2 of my hybrids with chinese cym parents and one sinense is in bud in the cool room. I might move the others to the warmth in early spring if you are successful.
