I do have one variety that is well behaved (Dallas Red), but Clint is right- BIG shrub. I saw one that was around 6 feet tall and much wider than that. I was shocked.

I had one three feet wide and two feet tall last year and it died over the winter. Just another annual here!

Hope this helps with ideas. Smiling

I have Gaillardia Amber Wheels, Coreopsis Early Sunrise, and a Dianthus Passion close to a Provence Lavender. You can see the Amber Wheels, the reddish-pink Dianthus to the bottom left, and a solo Early Sunrise just up above (looks like a yellow blob lit by that patch of afternoon sun).

Love that Amber Wheels!

Mesa Yellow, Mesa Bright Bicolor, and Arizona Apricot would look good in front because they are shorter Gaillardias and are very full. Amber Wheels can get over 30 inches tall and mght work better in back. Some Russian Sage in back would look good too.

Golden feverfew does real well, it's a fuss free plant and it reseeds for more plants to scatter around that nice contrast against green and silver plants or even better, anything bronze/red.

I planted lantana in planters last year. The roots filled the whole container by the end of the summer. I needed a claw and saw to get them out so I could replant this spring.

I do like the yellows with lavender.

Well, how about Dusty Miller, I think it would look really good with the lavender because it has the light silver color. Also drought tolerant perennial. Green Grin!

I think gaillardia, particularly one of the orange and yellow ones. I think orange or red mixed with purple makes things "pop".

I am in a Gaillardia and Heuchera phase. If i have a coneflower that dies, in goes a new Gaillardia! LOL. I am officially running out of room for new Heucheras unless I start ripping out Hostas that don't impress me much.

Well, Hosta would go good with Lavender also! Green Grin! Maybe not in Texas. *Blush*

No, I wouldn't think a sun loving plant and a shade loving plant wouldn't go well together. Smiling

Oh, most of mine are sun-tolerant but I don't know about Texas. *Blush*

I definitely can't plant the hostas nor the Heuchera with the lavenders.
I struggle with both of those plants anyway because of the heat/sun. I don't have nearly enough shade! In fact, I was just thinking that if I don't move 2 of my hostas and one, possibly two of the heucheras today they aren't going to make it. Thumbs down

Yeah, I hear it's real hot there. They do have a lot of sun-tolerant Hosta's out but in Texas they would probably need some shade. I hope you can get some shade real soon, Have you got any trees you can plant? Green Grin!

We keep loosing the shade trees (and grass, for that matter) because of the drought/heat combo we've had! We didn't even try this year.

Slowly, we are building shade, though.

You are right- "sun tolerant" hostas doesn't mean a whole lot here. Not full sun, for sure!

In those extreme conditions, yes. Although I think the AZ people are probably wondering what our problem is Hilarious! This year has been quite normal, though. We're very thankful!
