If I lived there, I'd get some Agave and other plants like High Country Gardens sells. I love the way those look! I got that new Brakelights Red Yucca and it's a great plant too. It's already blooming in its first year here. You propbably already have some of those already though!

Yes, we sure do. We have a pretty good cactus garden.

While we did fantasize about turning the entire farm into high country desert last year Hilarious! , that isn't at all normal for us. We had over 70 days of over 100 degrees, and our normal is something like 5. We also went something like 4 months with zero rain, and we average once a week easily.

Even for lavenders- finding full sun is not a problem, but I do have to be aware to plant with extra drainage in mind. Building up the soil a bit. Same with other very drought plants- planting in more sandy areas, extra soil build-up or on a hill.

I actually lost some salvia greggis because their roots were too wet last year! The soil in that one patch didn't drain quickly enough.

Couldn't win for loosing! Hilarious!

Found this when I was looking for some Gaillardias. Scroll down to where it says 'Thrives in sandy soil.'
