I have just repotted some of my orchids into geopots. Will observe as it goes. I like that the fabric pot is porous so the root zone can breathe quite well, and though it is soft sided, it is easy to stake the plant as needed.

Those containers look interesting. They are fairly stiff, to hold their form?

It is not so rigid, but once the media is inside, it can stand on its own. You can always stake the orchid if it is top heavy.

A local garden chain here in the area ( Metropolitan Plant Exchange) had them yesterday, but they didn't look as nice as yours. Theirs had a plastic liner too, which I would toss.

Oh I think there is another competitor for this geopots, the other one I see online is called Smart Pots. Yeah, this fabric pot I got is a bit thicker grade I think, so I hope it lasts for awhile Hey, guess what, my Den Smilliae which I have transplanted in this fabric pot is adjusting quite well. I have placed it together with my other orchids in my Growcamp and I saw that on one of the bare canes that did not have blooms when I got it, there is some active growth! So I do not know if it is score one for the new fabric container, or I have just got the right conditions for the plant. Any new growth is always fun and welcome!!

So it has been almost a year since I started using these fabric pots. So what outcome did I get...I would say it works great for the orchids! Maybe it is a combination too of better growing conditions as last year was also the first time I brought the orchids to my growcamp. There has been real good airflow around the plants and by their root zones.

My noid orchid which won't bloom for the past 4 years has given me a bloom this year. Oncidium Dancing Lady loved it, it held on to the blooms from September 2012 to late February 2013; My Zygopetalum loved it too, though it has not re-bloomed yet, but I can see the leaves are happy. Well, the Den smilliae, this is a mixed one, it did have a rebloom on this container right after I moved it there, but during fall to winter, I may have left it far too long in the cold ambience, so the leaves all dropped now, just bare canes, but I can see the roots are still alive, so there is hope.

I like that during summertime, since it has been too hot and dry, watering the fabric pots assures me it is draining well, and the wet fabric is also a source of some needed humidity while it is wet.

So that's my observation..and I think I will move some other orchids in this type of container.

I am amazed that the fabric is so stable? I would have expected it to disintegrate in a few months, and then one just pops the whole thing into another basket of sorts, perhaps metal.

I wouldn't worry about the Den smilliae, it does bloom on bare canes. So it is probably ok.

Yes, I am trying not to worry about the Den smilliae..it is just that the newest growth it gave me last year, which grew well up to Dec seems to have dried out this January..I guess got too cold..but knowing too that it blooms on bare canes, it gives me hope.

The fabric they used is quite durable, material much thicker than with smart pots. I do wish they make a smaller version of this fabric pot with a side velcro opening. It will really make moving plants a breeze. They only have that side velcro opening on their bigger version.

My Den smilliae is on life support ..not even sure if it is still alive..I think I may have pushed it too much for its winter limits..so have to repot in a regular container and see if it will manage to comeback. But it did well last year from late spring to Fall. It made a good rebloom..I got too complacent with the temps.

Noid odontonia bloomed late spring while in the geopots for the first time after almost 3 years and now after blooming it is busy making new pseudobulbs. Finally some visual growth I can appreciate.



I moved my Onc Dancing Lady to the other coir container I was also testing, it also thrived well in the geopot.

The only downside I see is during repot; when I repotted the Onc. Dancing Lady, the roots got snagged into the fabric of the cloth, so had to be careful in untangling them. But other than that, it worked great for me.
