I have a lipstick plant that is drying out very quickly and i have to water it every other day.Do these plants like to be pot bound or is re-potting it the best think i can do for it at this point? The plant is healthy but hasn't bloomed. When do they bloom?

What type of soil would be best for this plant? It likes to be kept moist????

They don't mind having some room at their roots. Re-pot him, no problem...in a pot one or two sizes bigger than what he's in. They like a nice loose soil...I use store bought potting mix with extra perlite added.

They can be dry to the touch before watering again...I use the first knuckle rule...if the soil is dry up to the first knuckle on the finger I stick into the soil I give it a drink.

thank you for the information,

How much light should this plant be grown in.I was told lipstick plants can tolerate direct sun but i'm not confident in the advice.I have it in dappled sun and the leaves have faded. No damage or scorching just faded leaves.

What's the lipstick plants sun requirements??

Have a wonderful day!!!

I won't put mine in sun at all...bright light at best...and I'm in Canada where the sun is fairly harmless Big Grin

Sounds like your problem is solved. Topsoil holds water well too.

I agree with the above! I repotted mine and it did great! I watered when just dry, but honestly I am bad at keeping track of watering because I have 3 toddlers! Also, I had it in a sunny window (maybe a foot back) where it got lots of indirect sun and the plant was very happy and in fact, it bloomed once for me!

What ratio of fertilizer is best for my lipstick plant? 20-20-20 or since it's a bloomer maybe 15-30-15. I also add super thrive to my fertilizer and my plants love it.

When are they suppose to bloom, spring or are they a year round when kept inside in a controlled atmosphere?

thank you all for the advice and have a wonderful day!!! Hurray!

Mine are just starting to bloom now...I *think* the longer days kick them into gear. I feed them half strength 8-7-6 fertilizer.
